If I volunteer to recruit, do I get a better shot a station of choice? Can I re-up and finish out my career as a recruiter and retire?

Two questions: If I volunteer to recruit, do I get a better shot a station of choice?
Can I re-up and finish out my career as a recruiter and retire?

There is a possibility to get station of choice while at the school house but you will have to be a highly successful student and communicate with your SGM of where you are wanting to go to. I completed my career as a 79R but I started out as a detail recruiter, went back to my old MOS, I was called back, and was involuntarily converted to 79R.
So your required 3 years before you consider converting... it can be a mind changer

Go to the USAREC website and find the link for "Recruit the Recruiter", but yes, you have a better shot at getting one of your top 3 preferences if you volunteer versus detailed. Re-classifying to 79R is a different matter. First you have to be a successful recruiter with demonstrated production, potential to lead recruiters, and recommended by the CoC.. Second, you have to actually want to be in recruiting for the rest of your career. Until you are actually assigned to a station and on production, you do not know the answer to either of those questions yet.
