Hi, I'm a PFC Oh. My current mos is 11B and I heard from people that our unit is kinda againt the idea of reclass. I assume they really need people. I don't mind 11B, but I don't think I can do infantry for a long term as a female.

I want to utilize my language skill in the Army.
I'm a Korean native speaker, I can also speak Japanese and Mandarin. I have a degree in Chinese language. So I would like to reclass as a 35P for my reenlistment. I think 35p would be the great mos for me.
I heard it from someone who's alredy in 35P saying that Army is looking for people who can speak Arabic, Chinese and Russian. I want to improve my Mandarin more.
Will the Army makes me as a Korean linguist since I'm a native speaker?
Or can I pursue the Army put me in the Chinese language training?
Thank you!

Your unit has nothing to do with whether or not you are able to reclass. I have reclassed and reenlisted many 11B to move, there will always be someone else coming in to replace you.

You will need a DLPT with your Korean language that is within a year. Not a DLAB, that is for people who don't have a language already. Take a DLPT for all the languages you speak. You will most likely be given 35P as a Korean speaker and later in your career can request to go to DLI for Chinese or any other language the Army needs.

Second part is you need a TS clearance. If you are not yet a citizen you will need to do that first in order to be granted a TS. Once you have your TS clearance and a DLPT that is within a year, THEN your Career Counselor can request a 35P or 35M class date for you. Whether or not the Army will approve it depends entirely upon what the strengths of your current MOS and the strengths of your requested MOS are - and most importantly, if there are any available class seats at the time.

SGT (Join to see) you only need to be a 2/2 speaker in a language so depending on how good of a Mandarin speaker you are you can request that instead of Korean as your primary language. You will also get paid additional money for multiple languages depending on your scores, up to a max of $1,000 a month. You can be qualified in multiple languages but your Primary or Control language is the one you have to maintain a 2/2 in and is the one you'll be assigned to work in. However, you are a 35P/M first and a linguist second so you could easily be assigned to a Russian position if it needs to be filled

SFC (Join to see) that's a great information SFC. I don't mind to learn a new language at all. I will improve my Mandarin, or study basic Russian. Thank you so much.

SGT (Join to see) - You definitely will not be given a new language if you are a 2/2 speaker. A new language is 12+ months of DLI and if you fail you don't go to 35P training, so HRC will not send you to a new language unless it's necessary. But since you are a 2/2 speaker in at least one language HRC will place you into one of those languages so you only have to go to your AIT to be MOS qualified. But, later you can request advanced training in your control language (CTL) or you can request training in a whole new language.

1. Your unit has absolutely nothing to do with re-classing. That is the bailiwick of the Branch/HRC. 2. Branch/HRC will have you in whatever language they need at that time, your only choice is to take it or not reclass.

SGT (Join to see) - Drive on Oh!, If you have proof for fluently speaking Korean, then they will put you into a different language that they need,

If you want to pick your language, don't report prior language experience. If you do report prior language experience, and they make you take the DLPT, fail it as badly as you can. If you reclass to 35P and you have a passing DLPT score, they're likely to make you bypass DLI, and CLANG you based on your DLPT. If you DON'T have a passing DLPT, and you do well on the DLAB, you can pick the language you study.
