Their response would be a lot less tepid than a response from our feckless leader.

thornton, with putin playing nice with assad who has been described as a secular leader and our president playing nice with those opposed to assad, how do you think it will play out considering isis also opposes assad's secularism?

SPC Andrew Griffin - Sure.

YES by:
1) Less ISIS to worry about (ever, really), in case we were to ever commit to ground troops en mass.
2) A little bit more stable region with people thinking that "Damn, big boys ain't playing. Better not piss off the Americans anymore, either."

NO by:
1) A world that will condemn the Russians for committing the act and condemning the US for not trying to stop the Russians.
2) See #1 for the rest of the worlds crazies possibly kicking it into high gear and actually getting their hands on a nuke and turning around and using it in a major city.

I would say your explanation is a very plausible scenario!

If it's confirmed that ISIS planted a bomb on the Russian plane, what will Russia's response be?

I cant say they really did do it, but only if they did. If they did then its in retaliation for there involvement.

If Putin doesn't strike back hard wouldn't it make him look WEAK or vulnerable?

Hopefully sending a fairly ruthless stern return would be in order.

My personal theory is that that plane was shot down by one of the many MANPAD surface-to-air missiles that went missing from Libya. The Sinai branch of Islamic State has it's origins in the West Libya area.
From a strategic perspective, if Putin plays his cards right, he has opportunity to do some joint operations with Egypt.
Slowly but surely, our entire Mideast foreign policy is unraveling.
