You should start preparing for the hustle of making points for SGT and possibly SSG. The MOS does not progress quickly, you'll be a SGT while your 13B peers are SFC. Start working on what takes the longest - civilian education. You're going to need a bachelor degree to be competitive for SSG. Since that takes years, best to start now while you wait for your 68T class date

Thank you, i know 13Bs tend to rank up faster than most. I need a degree or is it recommended?

SGT (Join to see) you need a lot of promotion points in the future and years of patience. Most of the promotion points you can get quickly by doing well in various things like weapons Qual and PT score. Civilian Education is one area you can earn points in, but it takes years to earn a bachelor degree and max out those points.

Support MOS's stall out a lot longer than Combat Arms MOS's. You might want to go to the HRC enlisted promotion website and pull up the points every month for the last year to see what you're up against. It's not uncommon for some Support MOS's to stay maxed at 798 (meaning nobody gets promoted that month) for several months or even years on end.

There are some MOS's that are OK for entry level but you don't ever want to reclass into because of promotions. Most of CMF68 except 68C and 68W fall into that category. People want to reclass into these jobs because "blah blah blah something civilian skills after the Army". The problem is that if you like the job you'll keep doing it in the Army and if you don't, you won't want to do it after the Army. So the people in these dead end MOS's get stuck as an E5 with 10-15 years in, not able to make enough rank to stay long enough to retire, but close enough to almost taste it. If you're going to go into an MOS like 68T then you need to be extremely aggressive about getting promoted or else you may be one of those Soldiers desperately trying to reclass at 14 years into any MOS that will let you stay long enough to retire and draw your pension at 20 years

Get ALL THE CIVILIAN AND MILITARY EDUCATION you can get your hands on. Ive known several Tangos and their promotion rates after SGT suck ass. As for the actual MOS, seek out the Vet unit on your base (there should be one especially if your base has K9 MPs) and pick their brains.

I can honestly say that I've never met a SSG 68T. In fact, it's a 68R that runs the Vet clinic

Also, you will not be taught Jack $%!+ at AIT, now. The Army completely screwed up training for this MOS and Aptitude requirements because they needed bodies. Now they have way to many bodies and most don't have any idea what they are doing or do not have the mental capacity
to truly accomplish the job of being a good tech. This crushes the Officer and NCO they serve under. If you have a GT score of 110 min. Then by means, Go for it and it will be rewarding for you, your patients, your leadership, and onebday your subordinates. If you don't..... please pick something else.
