In the 1980s many units received cold weather training. I had a full issue of cold weather gear. Can today's Army fight in cold weather?

Chief, I get your point. Today's Army does have advanced clothing to help Soldiers in any weather conditions. But understanding weather and impacts upon the operation has not improved. We had freezing rain on a rotation and the light infantry battalion did not pack their rain gear. First time I saw an entire unit conduct an Admin move direct to the medical company. Better to have and not need than to need and not have.

Ask someone from 10th Mountain. They can tell you all about it. Ft Drum 20 miles or so from the Canadian border

Yes they do. I did the cold weather training with the old style gear, wool underwear, wool uniforms and over overpants and overcoat, plus the micky mouse boots, just as all the high tech stuff was coming on line. Now the old stuff worked, but it's not nearly as comfortable as the Pile, Poly and Gortex stuff.
I would think that the 10th at Drum would have real cold weather gear, as well as the 4Th at Ft Carson. Both locations have real winters.
