In what capacity should the Maryland National Guard be utilized to assist with the Baltimore riots?

It looks like events in Baltimore have been quickly deteriorating over the past 24 hours and the Maryland National Guard have been placed on "alert" to be called up to assist. If mobilized in what capacity should the soldiers be utilized in your opinion?
Edit: As of 1817 CST Fox News is reporting that the Governor has mobilized the National Guard.

Only to protect state or government property such as capitol buildings and things like that. No patrolling or similar to what the guard did in Missouri when those riots broke out. I think this is a different animal all together and may get to the LA riots level.

Provide a presence; maintain stability; free up law enforcement; crowd control. Detain looters and allow law enforcement to take them into custody for processing.
