Something I have noticed is that Ft Carson is now at FPCON Charlie with increased security at the gates: HMMWVs with crew served weapons, combat loaded gate guards with M4/M16s, ect. However, looking at most of the major shooting in the last few years, most of them occurred on post by a service member who had access. Not someone running a gate. Not someone sneaking through the fence. I understand why they are at FPCON Charlie, but why focus on all that outer security when we should be focusing on policing ourselves from within? Just a random thought for the day.

sounds like a misguided attempt at showing that they are protecting the base if its really related to the incident at Fort Hood

I am hoping that is an AT/FP drill or RAM measures

That is what I was looking at. I like the show of force theory but all the focus is on the outer perimiter. I would think it would make more sense to have roving patrols, ect as well. Maybe they are there but I have yet to see them.

I think with extra security at the gate is not the right answer. At the most spend a few more minutes searching vehicles. The only thing we can do in light of this situation is engage our soldier more then we already are and ensure all our agencies are doing their job to id and help our soldiers in need.

They should research past events; the gate is not where pervious attack occurred.
