The only non combat MOS in the Army is Recruiter. Everyone else from nurses, doctors, chaplains, and pencil pushers deploy to the combat zone and have been killed in combat. As a 25U you will almost always be stationed in combat unit, there are very few non deploying units a 25U can go to

How long would combats be deployed for and where do they usually go?

PFC (Join to see) they go where they are told and deploy for a length of time that is dictated by commands. Typical USAR/NG deployment is 9 months.

I am so far from combat as a nurse that I took care of Taliban and Al Queda detainees...

I am in an Airborne Infantry Regiment and we have a 25U’s attached to every IN Rifle Company as the Foward Support Signal guy delegated down by the S6. We just got back from Baghdad, Iraq recently. So it’s definitely possible.

You're a soldier first and your MOS second. That's how my drill put it to me. "Are you a fucking pussy? Scared of a little noise baby? You are a God damn soldier then whatever pencil pushing job you picked motherfucker" is actually verbatim but yeah.

Is 25U a non-combat MOS?

If you're wanting to know if 25U falls into the Combat Arms area of MOSs, no it does not. Is it a non-combat MOS? Nope. Damn near every MOS deployed to an area of operations that has hostile actions will see some sort of combat. IDF (indirect fire), for example.

It’s weird you waited till AIT to ponder this question.

With that aside don’t let the existence of “Combat Arms” MOS’s like armor, Infantry, Artillery and etc give you the impression other MOS’s are non-combative or won’t be in conflict. Combat is generally a 360 environment and the concept of enemy/friendly lines doesn’t exist like in WW I/II. Comm guys see combat just like medical professionals, truck drivers and everyone else serving in a forward environment. It will ultimately depend on your unit and where you deploy but if you wanted to avoid combat you chose the wrong profession. If you want more opportunities for it there are always chances to volunteer for other things.

But don’t really focus on that at this point. Just train hard and absorb all the knowledge you can

This really depends on what unit you end up at. I am a 25S which I’m sure most folks would say is an even more “non-combat” MOS, and yet I’ve been in combat. Another thing to keep in mind is that the wars aren’t as active as they used to be. Just because you aren’t a combat arms MOS, does NOT mean you may not end up in situations...

Can you be in Combat as a 25U? Sure. Will you be? Highly unlikely. Don't let the "everyone is a Soldier" talk fool you. You'll be in a Support MOS, not Combat Arms.

Is it worth it? Damnation Kid you should have thought long and hard about before you signed and took the Oath, Service in the Service is what YOU make it! Yes normally 25 series are Fobbits, but we have had FOB's attacked and if it happens, your happy lil butt will be on the firing line for sure.

What do you mean "Is it worth it?" If it wasn't then why are you in the Army? We serve our nation when it calls us to do so. As for your MOS of 25U. There are three categories of MOSs in the Army. They are Combat Arms, Combat Service Support, and Service Support. But that is primarily for organization. If you think you are going to be pulling triggers like Black Hawk Down then you have been misinformed. You may deploy if you go to a Brigade Combat Team. They are the Army's fighting units. But then you could to a support unit like a Signal Battalion or a Headquarters. Then you could also got to a training command and work on a base. Even if you ended up in a Brigade Combat Team they have maneuver units that do the fighting. It wouldn't much sense to have you fight when you have three battalions of infantrymen.

The Army is what you make of it. I joined at 18 and went off to war a couple years later. It sucked but I still think it was worth because that is what I signed up to do. You are the only one that can worth into what you are doing.

PFC (Join to see) - You will have to wait until you go to your unit. I am sure you have a few years left on your contract to get some classes in. You need to focus on learning your job. Also, the military will give you college credit for your training. https://jst.doded.mil/ is the place you can pull your military transcript. But you won't have any you finish your training.

PFC (Join to see) - The soldiers in the Signal Corps tend to be education oriented. You'll find that many of your fellow soldiers are taking college classes or other training. Depending on the optempo of your unit you, should have time to take to take at least one course per semester.

PFC (Join to see) - Do you mean the AIT training or are you talking about college? Some AIT training counts for credits, but not all. It depends on the college/university and what is on your military transcripts.

You are in a support MOS. If you deploy in a combat zone, your job would more than likely be the same exact job that you're doing in Garrison. And what do you mean is it worth it? That depends on what you want. If you're wanting a combat related job or skill set, then no. But if you're wanting to stay on the support side of the house, I'd say yes.
