I just called the SS office and they said they don't do the caregiver funds anymore. I am really confused and frustrated now.

Hi CPT Murdock, I am a retired SSA District Manager, and I can assure you that there is no such benefits. I do not understand why anyone at SSA told you that there are no more "funds" for a program that does not exist.. Reading the article linked by 1SG Jim S., the closest possible program is the 'EXTRA HELP WITH YOUR MEDICARE PRESCRIPTION DRUGS COSTS" program. I think the person that wrote the article called it the caregiver funds program, because a caregiver can assist the beneficiary apply for this benefits. If you are interested in filing for this benefir, follow these steps:
1. Go to https://www.ssa.gov/forms/ssa-1020-ocr-sm-inst.pdf (read this excellent PDF pamphlet that explains the whole program)
2. Go to http://www.ssa.gov (home), and look down or scroll down until you see "ONLINE SERVICES"
3. You'll see a list of benefits chart. Click on '"APPLY FOR SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS"
4. Under MEDICARE, click on "APPLY FOR EXTRA HELP WITH YOUR MEDICARE PRESCRIPTION DRUGS COSTS"
5. Scroll all the way down until you see a box that says: What Do You Want To Do?
6. Click "APPLY NOW
7. Answer all the questions, and submit it. Good luck!
NOTE: It is always a good idea to submit an application and be denied, than to call and just inquire about it. If you actually apply, and the beneficiary is not eligible, at least you'll get an official denial. An official notice, also preserves you appeal rights.
There is also another program that can assist a SSA beneficiary not pay the monthly medicare premium, and pay for prescription drugs. The Supplemental Security Income , better known as SSI. SSI is an assistance based on need program, so SSA will want to know the beneficiary's income and resources. The program is funded by, both, the federal government, and the state. However, some states do not provide cash payments, only medi-cal/Medicaid. Some people and social services organizations refer the program as SSP (Supplemental Security Payments). Before SSA took over the program, back in 1974, the program was handled by each separate states.

I work at SS and we do not cover the cost for the caregiver. The VA has a program for the caregiver.

CPT Carlos Ribadeneira, great answer to a complicated set of circumstances. The caregiver has traditionally been someone within the family who stays at home, and hence, receives no compensation for this unforgiving work. The Army put a caregiver stipend in place while their Service Member was in the Warrior Transition Brigade, after complaints about forgoing a job were received. A well-deserved program, it has been years since I was involved in it, and do not know if it is still in place. Perhaps this is where the question of a Social Security Caregiver Program came from?
