Is anyone going to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro? I've been selected to volunteer.

I'm not asking about the water. Please no more comments about the water.
I'd like to know if any other veterans or current service members will be around next summer, possibly to discuss travel and other details that might come up between now and August.

Hello! It's directly with the Olympic committee. I just found out this morning that I'll be a press conference room team member at the indoor volleyball stadium; and I plan on trying to help the Olympic Village newspaper somehow.

Don't even go near the water. Don't even think about going near the water. I would say not to even sneeze in the general direction of the water. Otherwise, be safe and have fun.

Okay, once again, in the touristy areas (Copacabana Beach, etc.), the water is fine.
They do need to clean up the area intended for some competitions. But from all reports, the drinking water is fine. Brazil isn't a third-world country.

Brazil Olympic venue water dangerously contaminated
Brazil Summer Olympics' athletes will be swimming and boating in waters so contaminated with human feces that they risk becoming ill and unable to compete. The Associated Press reports.

Thank you.
A friend I've made through the application process is an American who has spent a considerable amount of time in Brazil. She's been reading the same reports, and is not worried about the touristy areas.
Also, there's a long time between now and August. It does suck for the athletes already testing there. But most host cities have managed to make miracles happen by the time the world shows up, if only for those 18 days.
Again, I appreciate the concern. But I'd rather hear from people who are also going to the Olympics.
