In my opinion - strictly my opinion based on what I've seen and read- Bergdahl is a deserter and a traitor who aided and abetted the enemy. If the story of him relating to helping the Taliban by telling them about small unit tactics they would use to Serb for him after his initial departure - which resulted in deaths and severe injuries to his supposed comrades-in-arms then he really should receive maximum punishment.

I think back to Private Eddie Slovak who was the last soldier executed for desertion. His sprit was broken was scared to death, but he did not commit treason. He actually turned himself into a Canadian outfit, and they turned him over. His defense was he didn't want to go back tot he front. Keep in mind the battle of the Bulge had been raging. Now transition to Bergdahl, he left his post, was he going home or did he want to be captured? His father is an American Muslim, in all likelihood he had an impact on his son beliefs. I will say this, at least he choose not to lob grenades into a tent like some one else we know.

His father is not an American Muslim. He learned Pashtun, he learned about the Koran, in a desperate bid to keep his son from being beheaded... (I am not defending Bergdhal, I am just trying to visualize the father's mindset and the abject terror of knowing your kid is about to be brutally murdered)
I don't believe he deserted. I honestly believe that kid went SBT (Suicide by Taliban) He HAD to know the likelihood of being beheaded was close to 99%

SPC Robby Robinson - I truly believe that he thought that he would make it undetected... as in not being captured and head to Pakistan or whatever place he thought he could walk. The kid had self confidence.. supported by stupidity. I definitely think he deserted.. and my opinion is supported by the very definition of the word.

Hard to say. I feel it is being spun by the left and the right, and at this point, I only know bits and pieces.

If he left his post, became a deserter, went AWOL, assisted the enemy with bomb-making skills, denounced our government while not under duress.... well.... I believe he should hang, or face a firing squad. Period.

People died looking for him.

His actions inspired and motivated our enemy.

He dishonored his country, his uniform, and the code that all of us take when we swear an oath before God and country.

That's a trick question right now. On one hand if we look at just the emails and suggestive evidence from his squad I'd say he is a traitor; then you add on top he walked away from his place of duty, his watch post, he is AWOL, it's a double edge sword. Only he will know the true answer, what really has me wondering is his motives, I understand trying to learn the language so you can at least communicate a little but it seems to me he went a little over board and his father is a little odd to speak to him in a language which isn't even native to the area he was held. By all means this soldier should be brought up on UMCJ actions and not called a hero, if he faces charges or not is not my call but he should face some form of punishment for his riled in his disappearance.

Susan Rice said Bergdahl, served “with honor and distinction”. Does she research the things she is told to say?

There is no AWOL during time of war, it's called desertion and it's punishable by death!

The state department should not be allowed to hold press conferences anymore. The spoksperson yesterday basically said that all of Bergdahl's fellow soldiers were lying and that only Bergdahl knew what happened.

Susan Rice doesn't understand either of those words. She's just another political hack using up good oxygen. With the present political climate it is very doubtful that Bergdahl will receive any punishment. Probably retire him medically with all benefits.

You know, I have always felt everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt. For example, when PFC Bergdahl (I do NOT recognize him as an NCO) walked away from his FOB, maybe the kid just lost it and didn't know where he was going. Maybe when he allegedly asked folks where were the Taliban, maybe he was wanting to know to stay away from them. Yes I know that sounds odd. But for any of us thinking clearly, we all know OUR fate if we were caught alone and unarmed by the Taliban or Al Qaeda (a guaranteed ticked to LiveLeak Stardom) He had to know what his most likely fate would be. Maybe he wanted to commit suicide.
This kid is many things, but a coward is not one of them. I would never knowingly walk into a group of people I knew would most likely either kill me outright or sell me to Al Qaeda or whomever , only to be beheaded.
Yet with all that being said, to hear Susan Rice discuss his character of service as serving with honor and distinction, that is where I must draw the line. That is just absolute Jessica Lynch / Pat Tillmann Pentagon FLUFF
