Is driving home after 24++hr of CQ or staff duty safe. Better yet legal. Will i be left alone for a few hours to get some rest before i drive i have tried and seems sleeping troops in there cars is a no no that should be done after duty hours and at home.

If sleeping in a car after duty is considered an unsafe no no, and driving after being awake for 24 hrs straight is a serious unsafe no no, then your command needs to set up a room in the barracks reserved for those that have to pull the duty and drive home afterwards. No rest of any kind is not allowed during shift? Does the command not allow the CQ and CQ runner to trade off on sleeping?

It is set in the SOP 1NCOIC and 2 Runners shifts but we dont have that and its spacific bold NO SLEEPING ON DUTY underlined. So its not so much for me but the younger troops its just caring for the troops.

The longest I ever stood watch or ASDO in the Navy was 16 hours and that was because something happened to my relief. I would also occasionally work a normal shift then stand a watch, but never a watch then a shift working on the birds. On homeguard we had divided up into 4 duty sections and rotated days, at sea we had 8 duty sections to handle any work like daily's and turnaround's while we were in port. Pretty fair all the way around in my opinion.

I spent Twenty years pulling different types of duty and never had any issues driving home. It is your responsibility to get adequate sleep the night prior to preforming these duties. Time to grow up and become an NCO and not a SGT.

There are peer reviewed studies showing that 24hrs of no sleep can impair you up to a .10 BAC level in terms of mental acuity and overall brain function. Attitudes like yours could quite literally be the reason someone doesn’t make it home to their family. Just because you did it one way does NOT mean it’s right. Especially when there is data backing up what I’m saying.
