Is it common for a Special Forces Soldier to be assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment?

I am curious about this topic based on the recent issue of a U.S. Air flight attendant refusing a request from a 1SG to hang up his Class A uniform coat.

As stated already there are not SF soldiers in Ranger Regt. Most of the slots there are 11 series and "V" coded. There shouldn't be any 18 series slots there. The unit isn't composed to have any. It would not make it possible. A soldier there could be SF qualified if he left SF and went back 11 series. I could see this for a 11Z or an 11A.

I think he is talking about the long tab not the MOS. He prob just doesn't know the diff.

I would say that if he wants to have certain advancement positions under his belt such as a 1SG position, he would have to drift out of SF at some point, and a Ranger Bn would be the ideal choice to keep him in the SOCOM community. SF is, after all a pretty rank heavy organization, and there are only so many slots for command positions like 1SG, CSM, etc.

A little bit. Most SF Soldiers stay in the community, but will occasionally go outside for broadening assignments.

No, most stay within the Special Forces community and mature in different positions of leadership.
Some do leave the SF Community and due to their training are sent into Ranger Units to fill slots similar to their training. Some also go back to regular units and help strengthen the leadership positions.

I am not sure of the synchronicity of all the assignments.. Last report I heard was that he is a NG Soldier in a ROTC BN...

Still, odd. Who would wear ASUs to a civilian job interview? Anyone find this dude in the global? Like I said, giving the 1SG benefit of doubt. Maybe he can join RP and chime in :)

I would have expected a bit more OPSEC given the ISIS threat to service members. The real curve ball in all this is he knows better based on the communities in which he served.

No not common SF guys are 18 series and not 11Bs they would have to reclassify there are many SF guys who have never been to ranger school. they don't have 18 series slots for Regiment most will stay in community some will leave to advance their careers but not a common practice

I’m somewhat confused; your question is about career SF soldiers going to the 75th RRGT? Your mention of the soldier on the fight is clouding my answers, I’m trying to determine what it really is that you want to know. Can you clarify both your question and statement.

SF and 75th are different things. They are two opposite sides of USASOC with very different missions. This may be a case of "Tab vs Scroll". Ranger qualified and A Ranger are two very different things. There is very rare mixing of SF and Batt. I cant even fathom trying to determine which beret would be worn, let alone an 18 being assigned at Regt. It just doesnt happen. Regt then becoming SF, sure. But there arent 18 slots at Regt.
