I am currently on order to Yongsan replacement in May. I do not have pin point orders and I start clearing in about 4 and a half months. I have yet to hear from a sponsor even though I have completed the sponsorship request form 3 months ago. Is it common practice not to hear from or get a sponsor from Korea?

I came to Korea and never got a response from a sponsor. my wife, dual military , got emailed back from her sponsor. It doesn't matter, you don't need one here, it's too easy.
I didn't have a sponsor and I have been here for 8 months, I'm more then fine , don't worry about it SSG

Usually you will receive an email from your gaining unit to give you an idea where you our will be going prior to arriving here on pen. If you manage to get an email from your gaining unit, they may assign someone to answer any questions you may have.

Sponsorship is definitely one of the programs that is broken in the Army, and is further hindered by the fact that Korea is generally a one year tour. It could be quite possible that your sponsor is not in theater yet. I do see that you are in the MI field, you can contact me on NIPR, and I can see if I can help you track down a sponsor.

MSG james mullis is correct as far as I was concerned with the Army back in 96, I literally sat in the HQ room (which was more like a den) when i got there and watched like 3 2 hour movies til they decided, 'oh, yeah, you're to go the THESE barracks' They didn't offer to help me with any of my stuff or anything. NOT a great first meeting in theatre.

I didn't get one when I got here. In fact, I don't know anyone who did. I'm at Yongsan too. My unit is tiny, but if I find out about someone coming here I try to act as a sponsor. Keep in mind that just because you are on orders does not mean you will stay in Yongsan. You may end up at Humphreys or Carrol down south. What unit are you headed to?

I had my orders changed at Airborne, so I never had a sponsor. I went on leave two days after getting my orders. Closest I had was a brigade liaison that didn't get involved until 2ID tried to snipe my roommate and I.

The Sponsorship program is strange and not at all intuitive. The best you can do is to start emailing the sponsorship program people directly (there's usually an email address for SOMEONE attached to the sponsorship pages). Sometimes the sponsor's don't get the message or don't know what they are supposed to do (there's no real effective training for sponsors and what they are supposed to do). Once you DO get a sponsor assigned, get the name and email them directly.
You may not get pin point orders until you arrive in Yongsan, THAT is common.
If it makes you feel better, I couldn't get orders until my sponsor hit the button and that didn't happen until I was two months out from my report date and still needed to schedule transpo and household goods.
If you have general questions, I'm in Korea now - Area IV - and will do what I can to provide info or direct you to assistance.

It depends on if your sponsor was actually assigned and if they actually did their job. Usually, you would have heard by now.
