Is it possible for a former USMC Reserve E-3 to get E-4 before going to AIT for the Army National Guard?

As a former e3 in the Marine Corp reserves i was wondering if it was possible to make e4 either before going to or during AIT for Army National guard? I was in the the Marine reserve for 3 years and I’ve been out for about a year now. I want to get e4 because I hear marine e3 and army e4 are pretty much just the same thing.

Look up MSG Joe Weidlich in the G4 office at the 42nd Infantry Division HQ in Troy NY. He is a former Marine and works there full time.... Also, here's a bit of advice. I have been in the Army for over 20 years and have met many former Marine's who became Soldiers and we chewed up and spit out the ones who couldn't make the transition to becoming 100% Soldier. Making comparisons like "Marine E3 is the same as Army E4" will get you chewed up and spit out. Best of luck to you.

More likely not. You will need a grade determination and based on time in service not likely. Is your RE code 1? If you require a waiver, you can expect the answer to be no.

I thought you might find this of use...if you're former USMCR in NY, you probably know about the NY Naval Militia (NYNM), I'm not saying you want it, I merely mention it on the off chance you might not have run across itz though I realize you likely have, I should think...what MOS would you want? What branch? Common systems of some kind? Are you doing any undergrad or have you done any at all? I just wondered, I didn't know if you'd thought of warrant or commissioned, I know you didn't say that, I just have an interest in such things, I'd be most eager to hear more...since you were ground radio repair in USMCR, would you want elec engrg (EE) or elec engrg tech (EET) at all, maybe through SUNY or a private school? I'd just wondered, I know NYNM has that program to let those drilling with them compete for SUNY funding, tough SUNY started that income based Excelsior Scholarship for SUNY programs through NYS Higher Ed Svcs Corp (HESC), I just didn't know if you'd thought of such things as well, at all....

I’m aware of the naval militia but never signed up when I was in. Also I don’t want to do electrical anymore. I’m thinking of being a 91b (vehicle mechanic). Also I don’t think I’m going to college anytime soon. I’m more into looking for a trade.

I follow, look at going ASE certified, maybe assoc or Bach in automotive technology, I know you might not want it, SUNY Farmingdale has such a program, they went Bach and !asters level in technology, just a thought, however, if you want help finding other possibilities ask, ilpmtry to help, OK? If you want engines, also, look at the BOCES adult ed programs, all over NYS, maybe automotive, maybe airframe and powerplant FAA A&P, just a thought, of such things might interest you at all, I'm just throwing out ideas, honest OK?

Also, having been electronics, you could easily combine FAA A&P with avionics, I'd expect, there's the FCC genp radiotelephone operators license (GROL) with radar endorsement FCC has other ratings, as well, I merely !entionntem to make you aware, I realize you might not want those either, however, ifmtou want engines, BOCES programs for adult ed are all legitimate, and quite goodz they also qualify I think I'm fairly sure, for VA, and for college credit...get your DANTES or Maer Council on Educ (ACE) military transcript, also look up USAF Community College of the AF (CCAF) I don't know ifnotyer svcs can use it, you might ask, in any event, I'm just trying to give youmodeas, OK? I realize they might not all be for you, OK?
