Is it possible to change your BOLC/Branch? Just received my branch and feel I can contribute more in another area. If it is possible to switch, how would I go about trying to switch?

It Depends. If you're active component it's more difficult (or I would have been an Engineer officer). RC it's easier. What branch do you want?

2LT Nick Leather I assume ROTC? If so you can talk to your PMS but it will be an up hill battle. I recommend getting the most out of your experience as FA and decide later if you want to look into changing branches. A little more than half of what you as an Officer is the same regardless of your branch.

Thank you for advice. I’m currently at OCS. Regardless of wether or not I can change my branch I'm looking forward to commissioning.

2LT Nick Leather my understanding is, unfortunately, OCS has the hardest time changing branch before BOLC because they get so few slots. You can talk to Cadre there to see if you can switch with another officer if not, make the most of it, you will have an opportunity to change in a few years if you still desire.

LTC (Join to see) - Unfortunately, OCS is truly the "you get what you get" commissioning source.
Priority for preference lists start with the academy, then to ROTC, then OCS gets the branches still unfilled.

If you are OCS, probably not going to happen. If you find you really don't like your current branch, your next opportunity will be changing when you are ready for the Captains Career Course. Then you can change branches and just attend the CCC for your new Branch.

Sympathetic to you Sir as I cannot imagine serving in a branch I had little interest in. Fortunately there is more to being an Army officer than just launching Yugos downrange and it sounds like you have the right head on your shoulders.

Thank you. I’m excited to get my career underway. Although it’s not how I anticipated starting I’m going to make the best of it!
