I am switching from the reserves to national guard. I have an AGR position with the NG. The position is an E-5 slot. I have TIG, TIS, SSD1, BLC. Is there a possibility that I can enlist into the NG directly as a SGT rather than waiting for my new unit to promote me?

Doubtful... but I would contact a NG Recruiter and ask directly.

They aren’t sure either Sir. Guess I’ll wait and see, if it works out great, if not I’ll just wait patiently.

be carefull...often guard promotion
slots are finite and when promotions happen its because some one left the unit retired or died.....

He will end up being one of those people though as AGR, hahaha. Even worse if the State he is going to has a small Guard. Mil Techs and AGR are double edged. You'll keep them around, and they typically are a good source of knowledge/experience. On the flip side they sit in a slot forever. More so AGR since they have rank directly tied to their slots. Techs don't technically "have rank" while on Tech status so they can keep moving up as long as they don't outrank or have more TIG than their supervisors, but having to do 30 years as a Tech on top of any time already in service has many sit in one slot.

Highly doubtful. At least you've got the position. You'll get it sooner or later, and it's an AGR slot. Sounds like you've got a pretty sweet deal going on. Enjoy.
