I’m getting out in august 2023 and after extensive deliberation on my options I’ve decided to forego the army for elevator mechanic.

Through SFL-TAP? No. Through DOD Skillbridge? Yes.

Not thru SFL-TAP. SFL will get you to learn a resume, build a budget, job search and the like. Basically, it's a vast transition tool to use. Especially for those that have never worked a civilian job before.

You get the last six months before ETS to go into CSP programs during TAP. They also cost your money from your GI Bill.

Also, elevator mechanics have their own union, limited class seats, and other hurdles.

Basically, it's a very cush sounding job that you have very little chance of getting into without experience and knowing someone. You should definitely have a backup plan.

Elevator Service is a racket. Only trade I’ve ever seen where they inspect they’re own work. They have regions carved up like gang turf. Otis, Thyssen-Krupp, very few players.

LTC Jason Mackay - Don't electricians inspect their own work too?

SSG Carlos Madden no. There is a permit inspection by the building authority that cuts the permit
