I just enlisted with the Navy and I’m in the DEP program right now . I realized I didn’t get the job I wanted neither am I active duty but signed a reserved contract which was a mistake on my part .I am interested in the Marine Corps because of a job that I specifically want and know I can get immediately . I want to know Is it possible to get out of the DEP and go to another branch without getting a record on me or getting frowned upon by the military . I am 23 so I’m not getting any younger and I know the cut off age for the Marines is 29

Be respectful to your recruiter. They will try to resell you and may get pissed. Leaving the DEP is possible, but not that easy. Your DEP contract is 1 year with the prospective service. The Navy must DEP discharge you in order for you cross deck over to the Marines. Being in the DEP doesn't mean you are obligated by contract to ship.
Start by talking to the Marine recruiter. Maybe they have it in good with the Navy recruiter.
Good luck

You can leave the DEP any time you want with no negative effects. Tell your recruiter what you want and insist on it. It's YOUR decision. Until you swear-in the day you leave for basic you are a free person.

You are an adult treat your Navy recruiter with some respect and call him up and tell him.

Make sure this is exactly what you want. If you change your mind again all services will treat you as damaged goods and you won't be able to join any branch.

HN (Join to see) Why did you enlist in the Navy if the job you wanted was not available? What Marine Corps MOS are you interested in?

It's very possible to leave the DEP. You aren't officially owned until you're active, which is when you ship. A DEP discharge I believe is an uncharacterized discharge or something along those lines. Not good or bad, but it is a record. However, it won't count as prior service. That means additional processing and delay when going into a different branch.

I wanted a Special Warfare program with the Navy and a section on my ASVAB wasn’t good enough for it and I wasn’t told about it after I swore in . And I’m interested in doing infantry for the Marine Corps and getting into Soecial Operations .
