Is it possible to join an active civil affairs unit as a 68w (healthcare specialist)?

I was a 68W in a CA unit. Not the 95th, but the 85th, who recruited medics from 232 and then sent us to two schools in order to join the unit. One was a CA Medical Specialty course that gave us our W2, and then Paramedic school. I have heard that they are no longer doing this- sorry I don’t have any better info for you.

I believe some CA units require W1, or you will be required to volunteer W1, just like medics in SF, 75th Ranger Rgt., 160th SOAR. Don't quote me but that used to be the case. I believe their selectiin course is at Bragg.

It’s possible however, you still would have to go through a selection process and W1 training.

Yes. You can volunteer during AIT and go through an interview and selection process. Keep on mind that there are not many spots though, and you need to pass the CA Medic Course and Paramedic course before getting placed on a team.

They were recently recruiting from the 232nd med bn (whiskey training). Had a briefing then interviews for those interested. A friend of mine is headed to their training after he's done here.

We do have some 68Ws with their W4. However we are trying to get away from that and have exclusively 38BW4s as our Medics.
To be either you must have a W4 identifier. There are no regular 68W. Either apply for SOCM through your unit and once accepted drop a CA packet, or drop a CA packet and when selected volunteer for SOCM. Those are the ways to serve in CA as a Medic

Yes it is I recently worked with a E-6 that is a medic and attached to a Civil affairs unit in Bulgaria. Also I recently had a soldier that just came from Civil affairs and he is a medic. HR is the best resource once your ready to move assignments start calling and asking about availabilities.

I would think they would have slots for that MOS. Providing health care is the kind of "soft power" Civil Affairs is supposed to be good at providing.

You have to be selected but the selection is not that hard. They requiere a 68W10 GPA of 85 or above and PT score of 270. Other than that they will select a shitbag if they apply.

Your information in your post is incorrect as well. There is no GPA. 240 APFT, SPC-SSG, GT of 107+. And plenty of people don't get selected. A few months ago we selected 5. Yes 5 enlisted Soldiers. How about you activate, become a SPC, and come on out to CAAS and we see how you do in the "not that hard" Selection.

Civil affairs is a MOS itself but also has its own units to perform their missions.
The Reason I asked my question is because I know that the Civil affairs soldier has the opportunity to go to SOCM(Special Operations Combat Medic course) as an ASI.
Because of this I thought that they don’t need 68w’s. BUT I do know that if they would need need a 68w then the 68w would also go through SOCM.
I want to go into the medical field but also wanna be in a civil affairs unit. I’m wondering what’s the safest way for me to guarantee working w/ them:
1. Become a 38B with a w1 ASI
38BW1

Or
2. become a 68w and try to apply to SOCM course and then them putting me in a civil affairs unit to be a 68W1.
I’m just not sure if they do #2 which is what I’m asking about..

Having done some research as well, if SOCM is what you want to go through, then your best bet is taking the first route of re-classing to 38B and volunteering for SOCM after your initial pipeline.
