So I enlisted as a 25B about a year ago and ship out to Fort Jackson June 16th which is about a week after I graduate high school. When I initially enlisted I told my recruiter I wanted Airborne in my contract but he told me that the option was not available at the time and that as long as my PT score was in the top 10 percentile I should be able to Volunteer for airborne or air assault school while at Basic or AIT, I ended up taking him for his word, signed the contract went to meps, etc etc. However now that my ship date is coming up I've read a lot of stuff online and now i'm not so sure its that easy. If I cannot get Airborne at basic or AIT how would I go about getting it?

As a retired veteran who has served 10 years in the 82nd. I would say go for it if its something that you would truly like to do. Do your research first. But do not listen to a SPC who says "Don't. Do. It. Just trust me". He ain't got enough time in the harness to give advice as to anyone.

I just left there. You'll be offered the option during inprocessing to sign up for Airborne/Ranger or just Airborne. However, you'll be a holdover for a long time while waiting for a slot.

Yes, when you get to Fort Gordon for AIT you’ll either meet an Airborne recruiter or talk to one of you Drill Sergeants/Platoon Sergeants and they’ll get you what you need

I knew a few people in AIT that volunteered for airborne while in AIT. Just talk to your platoon sergeants and keep your pt score up. The people I knew that volunteered just ended up being holdovers forever waiting for a slot.

It is possible to get it in AIT it depends on the needs of the army. If you want to go Airborne the best way is to try to get into an Airborne unit. Really it is a lot about timing, luck and the needs of the army. Good luck.

You can volunteer for Airborne, Ranger, whatever. As long as you have the PT scores to back it up.

When I signed up in 72 if you signed up for 3 or more year's it was guaranteed in your contract. But I don't know how it works anymore. I think at this point you may have to put in for a transfer to Airborne School, I'm sure this has to be plenty of people counselors of sort that should be able to give you these answers. Good luck buddy thank you so much for your service. Airborne all the way. First of the three two five headquarters company Recon platoon Fort Bragg North Carolina 72 to 75.

So I’m at AIT and the top PT guys that are active army get selected for Airborne school. (They chose like four). But it’s only active guys. One of my buddies who is in the Gaurd got a 300 and they didn’t give it to him.
