So I enlisted as a 25B about a year ago and ship out to Fort Jackson June 16th which is about a week after I graduate high school. When I initially enlisted I told my recruiter I wanted Airborne in my contract but he told me that the option was not available at the time and that as long as my PT score was in the top 10 percentile I should be able to Volunteer for airborne or air assault school while at Basic or AIT, I ended up taking him for his word, signed the contract went to meps, etc etc. However now that my ship date is coming up I've read a lot of stuff online and now i'm not so sure its that easy. If I cannot get Airborne at basic or AIT how would I go about getting it?

During AIT they should ask for volunteers.

From what I've seen I processing into Fort Gordon which is where your AIT will be theres an NCO sho will be there for your I processing who will ask if you would like to go Airborne so you could have the opportunity to do so. You'll basically complete AIT then go to Fort Benning for Airborne school then to your unit.

It depends on Numbers and if you are Active, Guard, or Reserve. Currently they only let the Active duty soldiers get the chance for Airborne. By the time you get here to Ft. Gordon a lot is going to change compared to the way it currently is for AIT/IET. Just know the Army is always changing with it's opportunities. What is available today may not be available tomorrow and vice versa.
