We have gate guard for the post in June. My NCOs just let us know that we will be working before or after our shifts to complete tasks for troop. I was told (by other specialists) that we fall under the garrison cam. Is this true or are we screwed? I'm stationed in fort hood 1cd 3abct 69

It depends on whether you are detailed to the Garrison for the mission. If you are detailed you report to the NCOIC. However, you never get in a debate over this. You should speak to the next level NCO in your COC to confirm. Your 1SG should be approachable. Present it as a question of who you report to daily. You don’t need to mention the NCOs comments unless the 1SG clearly indicates that under detail you report to Garrison. Thank you for your service.

Instead of listening to the other specialists you work with, try talking with your first line supervisor about this. Is he/she aware you have guard duty? If he/she is, what kind of down time are you getting? What are these other tasks you speak of? At the end of the day, you have to follow legal orders or face repercussions. However, you can inquire with your CoC as they may not be aware of your status.

What? Most units have cycles (training/post support/alert) etc. When on Post support, you support the entire Post- guard duty, range maintenance , etc. If you are not pulling any duties that day then you are doing the normal work of your unit. Normally guard duty for us was 24 hr duty- split in 4 hour shifts. Those not actually on guard were housed in the Post Guard building- studying, goofing out/reaction force until our shift. Whay the heck is garrison cam?
