Is reclassifying to a 68V as a SPC still an option in 2018?

I am out of my 6 x 2 contract and I'm looking to change MOS's. I have good scores and I'm not flagged for anything. Is the 68V program still a viable option with promotion potential?

Im currently a SSG RT and made points at 656. Like most MOS's competition gets hard at 40 level. This MOS especially considering we compete for MSG against 68W's and others. Promotion potential is there you just have to have patience and as SSG Al F says, love for the job helps.

I retired 10 months ago, reclassed as a V from 11B. Last time I checked, there were fewer than 300 V total Army strength, so the need for E7 is low. E6 often stays at 798 for years at a time, I saw it drop twice ever, in 2004 and 2012 (when I made it). It IS a great job, but you have to decide easy promotions vs a job you love.
