I am currently a serving member of the national guard, and will soon be attending college. Are the ROTC benefits all they’re cracked up to be?

If you want to become a US Army officer then yes it's worth it. If you don't then you have no business doing ROTC.

PFC (Join to see) There are good benefits. I taught ROTC about 10 years ago. So I'm not sure what you can get now. I suggest go to the ROTC department and just talk with them and go from there. But ultimately you need to decide if you want to become an officer. What job/branch do you have in mind?

I am a 74D in the Minnesota National Guard. I have not shipped for AIT yet though, as I did “split ops” I’m a senior in high school and completed basic training last summer.

The scholarship has its perks if you need the financial aid. If you’re interested in becoming an officer it’s definitely a route to consider separate from the Academies, OCS and ‘Green to Gold’ programs. Otherwise not sure what other benefits you’re thinking about.

I would like to think so. I’m so new to the army I suppose I’m uneducated on what being an officer entails.

Lots of books out there to learn what being an Army leader is. LTG Hal Moore from We Were Soldiers has several books to read as does MAJ Richard Winters of Band of Brothers fame. I really enjoyed being enlisted however even as a middle grade officer, the chances to effect impact are far greater than at the same position enlisted. It is something you need to want to do, not be interested.
