The Marine Corp is a branch of the U.S. Navy Seabees. I got to put that dig in somewhere. Hoorah.

I'm a Marine , and back in the 80's we were taught, that the Marine Corps " is a Department of the Navy " . Hence the Anchor as part of our symbol.

I wanted to be a part of that "only" branch but I flunked the physical...my head wouldn't fit in a JAR!

Had you gone to recruit training in the '60s or '70s, I'll bet your drill instructor could have found a way to fit it in.

MSgt (Join to see) - LOL. Yup. Called them that affectionately when I was in. Mostly behind their backs, of course. Its all in good natured rivalry. Like I see my kids calling each other names. Yes, sometimes it results in a trip to the E.R. And stitches, or a broken foot. And, my father in law wanted to be a Marine during WWII. He tried to sneak in at 14 years old. They caught him. Mostly because he was a skinny, short little thing, not a strapping Norwegian farm boy. Sent him back home. He then nagged and fussed at his father until he was 16 years 10 months old... And finally his father took him to the recruiters again, and he was still too small for the Marines. So, the Navy took him. And he became a Navy Corpsman. Did Navy Basic, and then Marine Basic, and then medical training... and he was sent out with the Marines. Just a teeny-tiny dynamo of 5 foot 5 inches. Served thru the end of WWII, (was on Mt. Sirabachi and at Nagasaki after the bomb drop as medical relief) and stayed in thru Korea, and Viet Nam... forced to retire from lung cancer and removal of 1/2 a lung in 1972. He made it until St. Patrick's Day of 1992... I adored that man, and miss him every day. Best man I ever knew... and he did a great job raising his sons. So, for me... Gotta love the Marines, and those tough Corpsmen!

The Marines are part of the Navy. Now, who saw the movie and can tell me which part of the Navy? No, not the men’s department. It came from a line in a movie about one Marine.

It is not a branch, it is a service. Infantry / artillery etc is a branch of a service.
