I have been in for 11 years and my biggest problem has been maintaining my PFA standards, Much of it is my fault I accept that.
I also believe that it is also the way program is written. I have heard that more regulations may take affect I.E random BCA's and mandatory FEP for waistlines 40" and over. I feel this is the navy's secret ERB process in slimming down the force (no pun intended)
Just curious on how anyone else feels.

PO1 (Join to see) here is what I suggest: Ask yourself one question: Have I done all I can to meet these standards? (don't tell us, tell YOU the answer). If the answer is yes, then I suggest you gather evidence and push the issue. You may improve the system for yourself and thousands of people behind you. If the answer is "maybe" or in the negative range, then you need to work harder. Yes, there are standards that seem arbitrary, and some that actually are...but there are a whole lot that aren't

The one thing that baffles me is the age factor. As you get older your minimums are lower on the PRT. However you are expected to maintain your boot camp weight body fat standards.

It is harder when you get older to maintain body weight that you would of had at the age of 18. I agree. However, I was discharged for PFA failure and never blamed anyone. It was on me to keep in shape. I was just shocked that I was booted when 2 guys with DUI offenses got to stay in.

Your metabolism naturally slows down as you're older, yet you're still expected to maintain the same BCA standards as your 18 year old counterpart. However you only have to do like 20 push ups, 30 sit ups, and you have like three days to run your 1.5 mile. It's insanity. You have to stay skinny but they expect less physical effort from you as you age.

I'm all for tighter restraints on physical fitness. I do agree that it should be an actual rate not collateral and they should utilize a more accurate way to conduct BCA's. (I am a CFL) The bodpod is a great way, our command has one and it def keeps people in check. But, coming from the medical (IDC) aspect and having to deal with problems that are generally 90% from being over weight, I have no sympathy and I am 100% honest with my Marines and Sailors. If you are fat I will flat out tell you are, but I will also offer sound advise and help you build a plan to get back into a healthy lifestyle.
Military medicine is the largest budget and costing the tax payers so much money on people who need all types of medication, labs, imaging, and rehab all from being over weight. Why should I have to pay for somebody else who is just to lazy to work out and put down the candy bars, soda, fast food, ect ect. Its called discipline and self control, sh*t how about pride in yourself. How are we suppose to represent the most elite Naval fighting force if we can't fit through a damn hatch in a war ship.
It's always the ones who struggle with the standards who whine and complain, looking for loop holes in the system, always at my door for a LD Chit to get out of PT. I dont care how good you are at your job. If you are not in the standards I can find somebody who is and I am pretty sure the Navy can train them to do that job.
Honor, Courage, and Commitment! We all stood on those footprints and said the Sailor's Creed, how can you serve your country's Navy combat team if your on a Limited Duty board broken, over weight, on 15 different medications? All your doing is costing the Navy money and wasting the Tax Payers dollars, they should be charged with destruction of government property and fraud waste and abuse of the tax payers $.
That is all!

As a prior ACFL, I don't totally agree with the whole way Navy runs the program either, particularly weigh-in portion.
What do you envision as a better solution to PFA?

To answer your question regarding Chiefs, Casler, none. I've only been at two commands, so I'm not doubting that it does actually happen. I agree, the rope and choke is a flawed method. However, sometimes an extremely stressful work environment where you feel like you're isolated and can't talk to anyone because of the vast difference in pay grades because when you hear them talk they talk down to you and act like you shouldn't even be at that command can affect some people negatively to where they don't think about what they're eating or drinking and they binge. I'm not saying it's right, and I'm not saying it's wrong. However, there is always a back story to someone. As it's nothing more than speculation we all don't know for sure.

Give it some time and I guarantee you will see it happen. As for the rest of your comment, I'm all too familiar with hostile commands and excessive drinking. My very first interaction with my Chief on my ship was him stomping down the hallway at Norfolk TPU screaming "Where the f*uck is G*ddamn Casler" because I had checked myself in there when I arrived, couldn't find my ship and didn't want to be UA. As it turns out he didn't want a new guy and was trying to get my orders canceled, which is why he never assigned me a sponsor and I didn't have any point of contact at the command. Our relationship was all downhill from there, especially when I had the audacity to make 2nd before his chosen favorite AND get it backdated by BCNR to make up for the previous cycle in which he refused to order me a test. I could write a book, but my point is that I've been there and know how you're feeling but drinking it away is not the answer. I caught and corrected myself when I started gaining weight before it became a problem on the PRT, if you just let yourself go that is only going to make things worse when people start to see you as the division fat body. Exercise is a much better and healthier form of stress relief than drinking, hit the gym, run, find a sport you like, whatever it takes to keep yourself moving and out of the bars. There are probably organized leagues advertised at the base fitness center for a number of sports.
You need some social support too. You are already part of a great group here at RP, but find some "real world" friends with interests that extend beyond getting blitzed and bitching about the Navy. I'm not saying you are wrong to feel the way you do, but if you focus on negativity it will just grow and poison you. Don't let one bad command determine the course of your career.

PO2 Casler, I didn't catch myself before it was too late so I have one PFA failure in the record books. I binged ate and drank a ton of soda (my own fault), not binge drinking of alcohol (surprisingly). As I'm at another command and not a STAFF command where it feels like you have to be in least five years before you even get to a command like that. I feel more apart of a team, less isolated, and I'm outside all day working in a warehouse. I feel like I have gotten more done at the newer command I've been at for a month and a half than the command I was at for nine months. In the office I was in my LPO kept on saying 'You should've gone to a ship Lalu.' Which is what I wanted to do in the first place. In "A" School my SCPO went "Lala you're going to *command here*" "Say again please Senior?" "You're going to *command again* in CA." My friends were all shocked that I got that command, but I was just as surprised. When I first got there I was like a scared puppy no joke. Everyone was E-5 to E-9 and the lowest Officer rank was O-3. I know they're human beings like you and myself, but the fear of fucking up got to me and I just kept fucking up because of being afraid of fucking up.
I had two friends, a GM3 who got promoted to GM2, and another SN who left to a different command recently. I would vent to them, but instead of helping me away from destruction the SN would justify it as the GM2 would just want us to go to the country bar.
