Is the process harder or longer for a prior service member to go AD Navy through the Reserves or directly back to AD?

I'm looking to reenlisting back into the Navy. I've spoken with a recruiter recently and am told the quiet way back in is to go Reserves. I asked about prior service going straight back to AD, and get told that it's possible but it's harder and like a year or longer process.
Has anyone else experienced this or even elaborate as to why it takes so long?

SN (Join to see) I'd pry into that...seems like the long way around. Did you have a RE3 or 4? Is AD not taking prior service people? Why Quiet? If you join the Reserves you'll have to enlist again and get a conditional release to go AD.

I have an RE1. From my understanding, it's they are but the process is longer. Sorry, quiet was a typing error that I didn't notice. It's supposed to say quick way. I understand the whole RC2AC is a way back to AD.

SN (Join to see) - far from an expert here, just hate seeing people take the long way around when they know what they want. It would prevent you from having a large rectangular gap,in service.

Not that I don't understand your reasoning, however, aside from going back as Reserve Tech for USNR, I'd wonder if USCG might be able to use you, I realize you want Navy, I get that, I'd just wondered if you'd considered either idea at all...at the same time, I take it you wouldn't want to try the other svcs also, just to get their reactions, possibly? Did you do your assocs? Bach? Grad work? If so, what majors and GPAs, so far as you might care to go into...I just have an interest in career/educ things like our interests, that was why I'd just wondered and thought I'd suggest those possibilities, I'd be most interested to hear more, no rush, whenever convenient, obviously....

And get your mil training transcript from DANTES or Amer Council on Educ (ACE) as well if you haven't already, use CLEP, as well as, of possible, the GRE subject tests, they used to be worth 24 or 30 pass fail credits, though they can be rough, and I'm no longer sure credit is allowed for a minimal raw score on the!, not the GRE genl test, the subject ones, and raw score, not percentile...
