I have been taking my prescriptions, attending follow-ups, and so on. For the last year it has seemed as though my symptoms where worsening. I looked up the meds I was prescribed. With almost no exception, the cocktail of pills the VA where shipping me monthly had side effects that where known to worsen what I was being treated for. Has anyone else had similar experiences?

I dislike unintended effects of meds like weight gain.

I have turned to a more naturopathic path for most of my health issues. I wish that VA would start to embrace that instead of chemical -based treatment.

I think they are, instead of fixing the problem, take a pill for this , take a pill for that.....

The practice of medicine is just that: diagnosis of your list of signs and symptoms then prescribing medications to treat. Sometimes they are treating the root cause, sometimes the only thing they can treat are the signs and symptoms (either because they can't find the root cause or the root cause has no treatment at this time). So don't blame doctors for being pill prescribers. That is what being a physician essentially boils down to.

But you also have to look at the flip side, and that is societies (unrealistic) expectation of health care. Most people want that silver bullet fix. Give me a pill to cure me, and make sure it cured me yesterday.

Pills come with so many side effects, so the original purpose of taking the pill has now jacked up another part of your body!

They respond to what you tell them is the problem. If you feel that they are over medicating, don't take the pills, it is entirely in your hands.

I have since quit taking all but one, I think I had the mentality that they would help "fix" the problem, but they lean more towards making the problem bearable.
