Is there a policy that protects soldiers with use or lose days while in a school environment (e.g. SWCS SF, CA, or PSYOPS)?

Not for Red Sox fans! :-) Nah man, the guys below are all right. You're screwed...best thing you can do is hope you're in between phases...there should be though.

The only protection from leave loss is stop loss or extension due to a deployment. I may be out of date, though.

It is considered the cost of doing business with certain programs. The regulation is very specific on what qualifies, but you are getting some training that you desired and that is a good thing.

Valid point Sir. Thank you for the response. I am kind of serving as the S1 for my class, and I'm trying hard to get this to work for them but I may be striking out. I believe the approving authority is the local finance office though. Does that sound right?

SSG(P) (Join to see) - So as a former commander there would sometimes be requests that I knew based on experience would be disapproved. However, I considered it part of the Soldiers due process to try, just in case. This would be example of that situation. So I cannot 100% guarantee it will be denied, but it "may" be approved. I believe this is a DFAS decision and DFAS has a tendency of treating people like numbers and not people. The regulation most likely states who the approving authority is though. If you and a large number of classmates are in this situation talk to the units S1. This isn't the first time they have seen it, as it would be an every year occurrence.
I know here in the hospital we have residents and fellows that lose leave each year. The military is more generous than the civilian program requirements and since they are attempting to become that type of doctor, they forfeit the leave as a part of the program.

Roger all Sir. I used the S1 already, and unfortunately, it wasn't much help so I'm on a mission to get the right answer. I have the right answer now, and I'm hoping for an exception to policy.
