Is there an AFI that says whether or not you're supposed to be on day shift a certain amount of time before departure?

I have been told that airmen are supposed to be on day shift 45 days prior to a TDY, deployment, or separation to allow propper out-processing time. However, I cannot seem to find it in the AFI.

No, there is no AFI policy that governs this and probably never will be. Local policies from group down to perhaps element level may have it, but that's doubtful too. Hope this helps!

I agree with previous comments on this subject. There may be a squadron, group or wing policy on it but Ive always gone by a tried and true method; show me the written policy or it doesn't exist. I never took the word of a fellow airman (or SNCO, NCO or Officer) without documentation.

SrA (Join to see) I have never been aware of this requirement. It may be a local unit policy, but as far as being in an AFI, I never saw it.

Try looking in the AFIs that cover leave. There is usually a definition of what parts of a day wil constitute duty and what is leave.

Unfortunately there is not an AFI that says this. According to the AFI's you must be able to deploy within 24 hours for an emergency situation. If you look at the 10 series that covers all of the readiness and deployment procedures. If you have any in depth questions, refer to your UDM. That is what they are there for.

There is not a specific AFI, but if someone was forcing you to work nights up until the time you deploy, and making you do all out processing on your own time when you are preparing for a deployment, well, we have an asshole there. Who is going to take care of said night shift when you are gone? Are they going to just drop it in someones lap at the last second?
I can see the last two weeks. The 45 days might be a bit much, but not out of the realm. Are you just not wanting to do night shift? If it is a 24 hour shop, well, that is just one of the things you have to do. Welcome to life.

There is an emergency situation in Brussels. How long before you can leave? Lives depend on your being there.
