Hello, I'm a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard and am currently in the middle of transitioning to a female and was wondering if there is any sort of policy that prohibits a biological male soldier from wearing a bra while in uniform, I have already dyed my hair a natural blonde color which is authorized by the new AR 670-1 but am looking to do more to ease my gender dysphoria while in uniform, by my understanding there is no policy prohibiting a biological male soldier from wearing a bra whilst in uniform but am double checking here.

Please keep any hateful or disrespectful comments to yourself or you will be reported to a RP Admin.

There shouldn’t be any issues. Good luck in your transition and I wish you nothing but the best.

Be aware, Rallypoint has some good advice, but historically, the members here have treated LGBT members horrendously. There are a few good people, but don’t be hesitant to block the jerks.

Edit: I must say, Im honestly surprised by how encouraging everyone has been in the comments. Thanks for proving me wrong RallyPoint :)

"Shouldn't" is the key word there. You and I both know that there are some serious D-BAG haters in leadership positions.

SFC (Join to see) and I personally have politely told them to fuck off. There is no route they can take that doesn't come off as sexist and against EO.

I don’t know why it would; since it’s not worn on the outside of the uniform who would know?

It varies based on the bra. And lots easier to be aware of in tshirt (APFU/ACU w/o top). Some sports bras are hard to see but then also straps (they should be in neutral color like in regulation) may be visible and then potentially need through shirt.
Some normal tshirt bras like ones I have are super obvious something is under there due to design and padding.
I know one time in AIT someone noticed, we were chill though.

I'm with MSG Case on this one. If someone's looking long enough to realize there's a bra under your t-shirt, one has to wonder what the objective is.

CW3 (Join to see) - I don't know, for some of my bras it's super obvious, like I noted. People will be aware.
However still making it an issue by them will still always be wrong unless it's extravagant and unauthorized colors.
I might just have a weird attention to detail where I happen to notice but genuinely think, at least for my tshirt bras, it's super obvious (it's like coming in with implants or prosthetics (by breasts are too small even with it such small size)).

I know my sports bra's black strap is definitely visible, I was once super confused thinking a soldier was wearing a white tshirt with her uniform, it was a white bra strap (I felt so stupid), you can often (but not always) see bra design through tan shirt if we remove tops.

I don't know, I think bras are dumb and I'm not currently required to wear, though wear sports bras anyways. Maybe I'll try one of my [color appropriate] tshirt bras (34A), in event there is an issue, I don't mind fighting against it.

I'll let know if anyone notices, no one brought up my sports bras (nor should they (unless during PT they really like the fashion, then maybe)) outside of one time in AIT where I stupidly wore color that was absolutely not authorized for anyone, so expect no one to bring this up too (nor should they, it's a bloody bra)

quick edit: I'm pretty neuro-divergent and don't intentionally try to look at anyone and when speaking have issue where I entirely look away (I have done good job of resolving by just locking onto their eyes). I just happen to notice, I put specific effort in to avoid noticing because I naturally lock-on to 'abnormalities'. I don't know, sorry to anyone for me noticing stuff .-.

Edit: 14 May 2021, I still say it's obvious, but no issues wearing my t-shirt bras. It was nice.

If you receive any friction from your chain of command, another avenue to explore would be medical/behavioral health. As a provider, if I had a patient in your situation I would be willing to educate your command and/or write you a profile stating it is medically necessary during your transition. These are just a couple of outside-the-box examples your med/BH providers might help you with.
