Dobbins AFB? Not unless you're National Guard. That place is an AF Reserve base. As for FT Gillem, I don't think that base is operational. I believe it was closed under BRAC.

When in doubt, speak with your Career Counselor/Retention NCO.

As you mentioned, Fort Gillem was closed.

On May 13, 2005, the Base Realignment and Closure commission recommended that Fort Gillem, along with Fort McPherson and the Navy Supply Corps School be closed.[4] An exit ceremony was held at Fort Gillem on June 3, 2011, and First Army troops stationed there were transferred to the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois.[4]

In 2012, after five years of negotiations with the Army, the City of Forest Park purchased 1,170 acres comprising most of the former Fort Gillem for $30 million, and ownership was transferred to the Forest Park/Fort Gillem Implementation Local Redevelopment Authority (ILRA).[5] City officials wanted mixed-use development on the property, but following the housing crash turned their focus to industrial, manufacturing, warehouse and business park development.[5] The only private residences are a 125-unit development owned by The Park, which has a lease with the Army until 2025. There are around 165 acres of contaminated groundwater on the site the cleanup of which the Army is responsible for.[5] The clean up of the land was expected to take ten years.[5]

The Criminal Investigations Division Crime Lab, a forensic crime laboratory, remains open on a 250-acre enclave retained by the Army.[4][5]

I’m Army Reserve and I searched units on the army reserve website, I don’t know if there are openings but there are reserve units on the base according to the army reserve site.

SPC(P) (Join to see) - Again, speak with your Reserve Career Counselor. They can get into systems that you can't (nor I, for that matter), and see if there are open slots for your MOS there.

SPC(P) (Join to see) - According to the Army Reserve Unit Locator there are units at Fort Gillem and at Dobbins. As MSG (Join to see) has advised it’s best to contact a Reserve Career Counselor and find out if any of the units would work for you.

You need a CAC but go to
hrcapps.army.mil/portal/
The third button is "tools"
Then position map (vacancy search)
It shows Macon, Athens (E4), Agusta, FT Gordon, Gillem (SSG), Decatur (SSG).

You may want to look at these units and attempt to contact them as they may approve you to fill an empty slot even if it's above your grade.

Best of luck.

SPC(P) (Join to see) I hope this is what you were looking for. This changes over time so keep checking back. It may also be useful to check what other units are in the area that you could be able to train to change MOS for. I know there is a major signal command in East Point.

SPC(P) (Join to see) the 335th Signal command is a 2 Star Command with its HQ in East point. I don't know what MOS slots they have or what would be required for you to reclass to another MOS.

On this same tool also search for e3 or e4 positions without filling in the MOS. This will let you see lower enlisted positions near you. The units may be willing to retrain you. That could mean another AIT or in some cases a 2 week reclassification course.

Ok. I was finally able to get into the HRCAPPS to see availability for PFC 92F in the Georgia area. There are currently 8 open slots. They are:

2 at FT Gordon with the 81ST REGIONAL SUPPORT COMMAND

5 in Macon with 377TH THEATER SUSTAINMENT COMMAND (TSC)

1 in Augusta also with the 377TH THEATER SUSTAINMENT COMMAND (TSC).

The ones in Macon are the closest you're gonna get in regards to FT Gillem and Dobbins AFB.

I guess I’ll just have to wait on an opening to happen, in the mean time I’ll do my part to get promoted for more opportunities.
