I need past and present military friends I'm in this funk and I can't seem to shake it. The only time I'm at ease is when I'm around other service members.

I agree with SSG Reilly. Wichita has two VFW posts, 8 American Legion posts, and an AMVETS post. If you don't want to drink, you don't have to. Not all posts have a canteen anyway. Many are nonsmoking. Find a post that fits and get involved. Take part in a committee that interests you, consistent with your schedule. The posts will appreciate your help, and it's a great way to meet new people with similar experiences.

SPC Michelle Rehman Check out the American Legion....The one I belong to here in MN does not even have a bar. They do a lot of community based activities, but it is not all about the drinking all the time. Also if you are in college there will be a Veterans groups at your school as well too.

VFWs are a great way to meet people. American Legions are my preference. Either way good people to get to know

SPC Michelle Rehman, I am also in Wichita. I know that there are others on RP that live in the Wichita area, but I never really checked. I have connected with a couple, one being MAJ Patterson, mentioned by MAJ Weiss and another who happened to move back to his home state after retiring from the Air Force (prior service 82nd Airborne). I sent you a Connection request.

The main thing is to be active with an organization, wheather it be a service organization or veteran's volunteer group, I suggest American Legion Post 4 at Murdoc and Waterman. We also need active volunteers with the Kansas Honor Flight to help with sending our Kansas War Era Veterans to visit their war memorials in Washington DC. We need volunteers to help with sending and returning Veterans at Eisenhower Airport. Sending out per scheduled flight on Wednesday's at 4 am and returning on Friday's at 10 am.
