SSG (Join to see) I will have to find my initial entry contract from 1988. It clearly states US Army Station of choice option Fort Lewis, Washington. It was the ONLY thing I could get written into my contract but it was the only deal breaker for me. I would not sign unless I got the guarantee of fort Lewis

That was back in 1988. That’s not an option anymore. You enlist and name 3 preferences, and 99% of the time, you don’t get any of them. You are needs of the army. So before you go down voting a comment because you think you are right, know what you are talking about first. Times have changedSGT Robert Wager

Can’t ensure that you will go to Korea but odds are since your a 15r if you request it you will probably get it.

From your AKO, go to your Assignment Satisfaction Key link and select your duty station of preference under the "preferences/volunteer" link once you get to the webpage. You will have to choose from three options for CONUS (continental United States) and three options for OCONUS (outside of the continental United States). Place Korea as your first option, you'll have a higher chance of getting it as your first duty station.

Keep in mind that as a 15R1O level Soldier your branch manager usually places y'all where needed, not very often where requested. Unless you have a specific and substantiated reason as to why you want to be stationed here, it will not be guaranteed. You can find the phone number for your branch manager on the HRC website. Just google Army HRC.

When you get to basic you will have to fill out a small form regarding your desired duty stations. Put korea at number one and I'm 99% sure you'll get it. Lol

That didn’t exist in my OSUT. Her experience will probably be different though.

SGT (Join to see) the army changes. In 2011 when in-processing bct they took top 5 duty stations conus and top 3 oconus from everyone.
I put Germany at the top of my list, and ended up in Germany.

My experience is dated though, but I have heard similar stories from soldiers in bct and osut in the past few years.

CPT (Join to see) Hmm, yeah my recruiter told me I could list my top 3 but that never happened. I thought maybe because he went through AIT (as a mechanic) and I went through OSUT the difference might have been that.

So I will say this, it will have a great deal to do with your MOS and just SGT Dickhoff mentioned about the needs of the Army as well. However, if it does turn out that they need your type MOS there, then there's a great chance you might get that duty station. I'm a 91B and I chose Fort Rucker when I left AIT and I actually got it. There are hardly any 91Bs here in the first place, but it just goes to show you the Army sort of needs 91Bs in many different areas, so that is a good example you could think of for yourself and getting Korea. Good luck Private, and I hope your satisfied with whatever you receive as your first duty station.
