Just found out I will be going to Fort Riley. I am a 25Q.what are some pointers/insight in regards to the duty station?

I'm a Brigade S6 and have traveled through/past FT Riley several times.  I can't comment about the area, but a few things when you get to your unit.  If you are lucky you'll end up in the brigade signal company, otherwise you'll be in a Battalion S6 shop.  My expectations when I was a company command and now as a MAJ for new Soldiers right out of AIT are that you are motivated to learn your job and help out with whatever taskings come your way.   If you end up in a battalion s6 shop, you'll need to learn every other 25 series MOS tasks from loading radios, troubleshooting computer issues, as well as your own job of setting up an STT and CPN.  If you can get any professional certificates in Security+, network+, or A+ that will help you in the long run.  In the Signal Company, it is a little easier since everyone is a 25.   There you will need to focus on learning how your equipment fits into the bigger picture.  you could be on a HCLOS team or JNN STT or even a SMART-T if you have them.  In a BCT network nothing ever goes as smoothly as it does in the school house.  You'll really need to focus on crew drills with your team leader and setting up your equipment as quickly and efficiently as possible then troubleshooting your connections to the other network systems.
