I’m currently still inprocessing and my new unit is trying to send me downrange as a late deployer. Under the AMEDD portal, it says that phase 1 is all DL and it must be completed before I attend phase 2 (resident). If I am staying at my home station to complete phase 1 of ALC, is the unit authorized to send me down range?

You're asking if you can stay back from deployment because of Internet training? I hope you realize how ridiculous that sounds.

It's PME which is required in order to be eligible for promotion. I hope you realize how ridiculous you sound. If his promotion board comes around and he's not eligible due to deploying, and that happens enough to get him RCPed, what do you tell him then?

CW3 (Join to see) I tell him to get on the computer and do his training, just like every other Soldier in the Army who has to do SSD/DLC in order to be eligible for promotion. I completed an AA degree on deployment in Iraq. There is time to get computer access. 68W ALC phase 1 takes a weekend to complete.

Going to school is your priority. I don’t think your unit can. If your get rescheduled you will be behind your peers.

The unit can defer, but takes a GO signature. You will do Phase 1, but brace yourself to stay back if your Phase 2 date is right after deployment dates. Depends on what commander is willing to do.

Just got my ATRRS Reservation for ALC Phase 1. Can my unit reschedule this to send me downrange?

SSG (Join to see) I have to respectfully disagree with SGM (Join to see). Deployments are higher priority than a school for promotions. That school can be waived while your deployed, and you are given up to 1 year to complete the requirements for the promotion. So, if/when you get promoted to E-6, the prerequisites can be waived for deployments, and then you can be sent to school after deployment.

SSG (Join to see) - If they need his MOS then it is possible, no?

SGT Javier Silva no your right anything is possible but if he is a 68W I don’t see that many situations where they will make that request. Especially if it is not a actual combat deployment

SGT Javier Silva you can disagree all you want, Army says NCOPDS is the priority. If deployed you are supposed to be redeployed to attend. It can be deferred but requires a GO signature.

MSG (Join to see) - I did. However, SSG (Join to see) explained to me about the deferment. I am willing to learn new things. Deferment is possible. It is just up to the command to submit the 4187 to HRC. Something new.

A very similar situation happened to me. I was scheduled to deploy, and about 2 months from the date I was notified of a hard slot for BLC. My unit deffered it and said they would send me to BLC downrange. Got downrange and it took 8 months for me to get a slot for them to tell me that we were 60 days from redeployment and cancelled my BLC slot. Then, a week later we got extended to a 12 month deployment lol. Couldnt go to BLC until I PCS'd to a new unit.

All,

My unit come home from deployment in about 3 months. Personally, I’d rather get all ALC requirements completed so I can attend the follow on phases as soon as possible. My ATRRS email says phase 1 is 8 weeks. I’m not sure if it’s paced similar to an 8 week college course or if it’s all done at my own pace. I’ve contacted other NCO’s in my new unit about it. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

The GO will not sign off on that deferment SSG (Join to see). First thing out of his/her mouth would probably be "WTF? They come back in three month."
