She should have taken the high road and resigned. She is a public servant and that's her job. But Obama and Jerry Brown were guilty of the same things when they would not defend challenges to DOMA. Obama said it was an Imoral law. and this is before SCOTUS said anything about it. If she was a Muslim I wonder what they would have done? Religious accommodation goes booth was. May not apply here because she is a democrat and was elected .

Based on the SCOTUS ruling, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, our attempts to create a non-dicriminatory environment, where ALL are created equal, she's abso-f'ing-lutely WRONG.

She took an oath of office, and thus is violating her contract with the state.

I don't believe it's really that uncommon to realize that a job your doing just isn't for you. I remember working as an installer, and while I enjoyed the travel, I can't say I really enjoyed the work. The same holds true for some of the other jobs I had, all had aspects of the job I enjoyed... however I wasn't really that happy doing the work.

It seems to me that the job of county clerk is no longer suitable for her, she should resign so that someone who is able to comply with the law can take up that position. If she insists on staying in this position she should be fined an amount equivalent to her salary. I don't agree with jail, since she doesn't pose any real threat to the public.

Marriage in Christianity is between one man and one woman (I won't talk about the Mormons). I can't argue that one. A marriage license is a government issued document that opens doors to federal benefits. That is where I stray from my church. I don't believe you can deny a legal document based on an orientation.

You see that’s the difference between military, ex-military, and civilian personnel way of thinking. Military minded personnel know that if you are given a lawful order, and in this case the US States Supreme Court deemed it lawful to have same sex marriage a law, regardless of what you, and I may personally think about it, it's still a law, and If the county clerk feel so passionate about not issuing the marriage license she should resign from her position. Also, the onus should be put on her supervisors as well. "Do your job or lose your job", those are your choices.....

It's one thing to stand up for what you belief in, it's another to have those ideas get in the way of doing your job and adhering to the rules and laws that govern your job. It is no longer, nor was it ever her place really, to say who can and who cannot be issued a marriage license. That is why the case when to the Supreme Court, not her desk.

I'm sure she is fully aware of what can happen to her if she continues to refuse to issue these licensee to same-sex couples. And I'm sure she sees herself fighting "the good fight" but again, the Supreme Court made it's ruling and therefore public officials must recognize it.

Now, the one thing people must keep in mind is that some churches, which of course run independent of the federal government and have their own rules and laws that bind their officials, can still refuse to take part in having same-sex marriages done on their property as well as refuse to provide clergy to officiate the ceremony.

at least for the time being churches are not fedarally controlled, I dont think it will be too long before that changes because anti homosexual sermons will be considered hate speeches

SGT John Rauch - That is actually a really interesting point of view. My dad, who retires in June 2016 has been a minister in the United Methodist Church for over 30 years. He is the one that told me about denominations putting it out there that their rules still stand, including that of the United Methodist Church (which calls their laws and rules "The Cannons"). I'll have to speak to him about how he sees that sort of thing playing out.

well, I am an independent baptist, but I do not claim that we have the corner on the market as far as the bible, I dont think you have to be baptist to go to heaven, its Christ who make the difference. even within fundamental circles there are piddly little disagreements that cause huge problems. the chances of making everyone happy without completely eliminating the opposition (which I am opposed to, to make it clear) are slim to none. But I dont believe it will be too long before the government tries to eliminate christian views by eliminating christian people. maybe another generation or two. call me crazy but I see Matthew chapter 24 beginning to play out even in America, I dont think we have too long as a world power with the way things are going.

She has absolutely no right to interject her religion into her official duties. She should be terminated. -- from her employment.

She has the right to live by her religious beliefs. It is religious expression.
