We have such a unique opportunity to learn the basics and advanced operations of construction while in the military. These opportunities should be taken advantage of. I am a strong proponent of taking advantage of all opportunities the military life has to offer to prefect your skills as operators and managers. The civilian market looks continually for experienced operators, superintendents, and project managers. We are taught these skills during our career and can translate them to a successful and rewarding career after the military. I encourage all to seek the projects, take advantage of opportunities your leadership provides to run segments of projects and keep record of all this. The adder schools afforded to us are and expensive on the civilian side. Make the most of your career while you have the chance.

Love it! We don't know what tomorrow holds for us, so it is best to take advantage of what is in front of us today.

I wish that the AF/ANG had better trained me on construction management. It is a whole new ballgame. Some troops will be involved with EST teams or MilCon contract management by the vadt majority will not. It is a shame because with the AF outsourcing so much, NCO's should have plenty of opportunities to oversee contracts.
