Linux users, how often do you compile apps from source? Why or why not?

Depending if you can find the binary, if you can't find the binaries. No other choice to compile from source. Ubuntu usually takes care of this, but every now and then I still jump on a virtual machine and see if all my install/start-up scripts work with arch/i3/tmux

Rarely, unless I need the most current driver/library for something to work. Most distributions have a great package management system that keeps track of versions and updates, reducing the need to compile from source. That being said, it's always good to know how to do in case something breaks or doesn't work as expected.

This is definitely a process I won't forget - that's for sure. Thank gods for IRC support. I feel like I've just created a distro from LFS or Arch.
I don't see you on Linux threads often. Is there a reason for that - besides priorities?
