I worked hard, but never saved. Next time I would save a fixed percentage of my income and never touch it until it was enough to invest in the many opportunities that came up with the advancement of technology. I would also pursue a career in bass fishing now that I know how to secure sponsors. I teach my kids to do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life. They are both successful and happy in their careers.

Always have a career contingency plan. My plan all along was to stay on active duty until I retired. That changed when I was passed over for promotion and found myself leaving the Army 10 years before I expected to with no plan on what I would do next.

The BS and Mickey Mouse are pervasive and will wear you down if you allow it. Don't seek relief in a bottle. Talk to the chaplain/chaplain's assistants, attend services, and participate with your faith-oriented brothers and sisters in arms.
