Go to college. Get a degree. Then apply for a commission in the Marine Corps. An awful lot of us who enlisted as privates were smarter and more competent Marines than a lot of the officers we knew.

If I could travel back in time I would advise myself to Join the Air Force instead of the Army. :)

Realize that a 4 year year tour will go by quickly. Don't stress about that much time because, as it turns out, its not that much time at all.

Get a mentor who will guide you in managing people who are passive or resistant to change. Learn the basics of business management and sales.
