Knees in the breeze
My contract in Saudi is ending over the summer and I have a few positions through USAjobs which look promising. A couple are not MilTech positions so when I come out of the IRR I'd be free to find my own Reserve job and would love to find another position on jump status OR at least working within the Airborne Community. The non-miltech positions are potentially at Fort Lee so Bragg is not out of commuting range. Can anyone make any other suggestions? For the record, I'm KD qualified through BN staff level.

USACAPOC at Bragg would certainly be a fit. I know a couple of LTCs that work there if you need a contact. I also know people in USARC that could be of assistance as well. Send me a message if you need some assistance.

18th Airborne Corp is standing up a new multi compo unit at Bragg. They have a bunch of Reserve positions looking to be filled.

SGM (Join to see) That's good news, SGM. Just waiting on word on the civilian job. Gotta pay the bills before I can "live the dream", right?

SGM (Join to see) That is true, but there is still an issue with the required number of MUTAs proposed for the 18th Airborne and similar units that are creating RC slots. MAJ (Join to see) This would be a case of knowing what you're getting into before agreeing to the terms.

LTC Hillary Luton Absolutely, ma'am. With that caveat, though, I'm in a unique situation, career-wise. A position with the 18th Airborne Corps, even with limited MUTAs, would be a good way to close out my time in uniform. I'll definitely be asking questions. On that note, a position working with the aerial delivery guys at USARC would be cool, too. Thanks for your time, ma'am.

404th CA BN in Ft Dix, NJ or 450th CA BN in Riverdale, MD are your best bets, sir. Both are always on the lookout for Captains.
Good Luck.

1SG (Join to see) Much appreciated, 1SG. Fort Dix is actually one of the miltech positions I'm hoping for so I'd have the USAR slot covered there. It looks like a 2 hour ride to Riverdale MD so that wouldn't be a bad commute for BA. Thanks for the input.

Yes sir, no problem. I don't know anybody in the 450th, but the 404th is in my CACOM and I have interacted with them quite a bit.

Sir, I must apologize I cannot be of much assistance here, as I no longer jump, I do however engineer and climb cell towers, with a few freinds from the 82nd days, I could definitely line something up for you on the civilian side if it sounds like its in your lane of interest.
Airborne!!!

SGT (Join to see) SGT, my lane of interest is paying the bills and taking care of the HH6 and the kids. You've sparked my interest and I sent you a connect request. Drop me a line and let me know what you had in mind.

Looking for an Army Reserve position as a CPT in the Airborne Community on the East Coast. Any suggestions?

To my knowledge the only Reserve ubits that carry Airborne status are U.S. Army Civil Affairs & Psychological Operations Command (USACAPOC - http://www.usar.army.mil/ourstory/commands/USACAPOC/Pages/Overview.aspx ). Best bet would be to find a Retention NCO at Ft. Lee (or as I call it Fort Leisure) and ask for USACAPOC units

I had a good experience with the 421st. They borrowed some of my RB-15's for an ocean drop and the chute failed to open sending my brand new boats and motors to the Davie Jones's Locker, great training.

MAJ (Join to see) Ouch! I can just see the FLIPL on that. Oops! Do you know what kind of rigging they used? You said "boats and motors" - plural. Can't see more than one chute malfunction at any one time and an RB15 isn't big enough even with the motor for a G11 or 12. We shall be sure always!

One was a chute malfunction the other was a crane error. Dropped the boat on the boat deck destroying it. No idea what rigging setup they used, but would have been great to participate in the training.

Try the United States Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Command (Airborne) (USACAPOC(A)) at Fort Bragg, sir. USACAPOC(A) is on airborne status and we jump every month. You could probably re-branch to civil affairs or psyops too.

The 404th CA BN in NJ, sir.

I know a lot of guys in my own unit are trying to transfer solely for their jump status.

My email is [login to see] if you want to send me an email with MOS, rank and what exactly you are looking for. Zip code for where you will live and how many miles you are willing to travel. I'll get on RCMS and see what I can find. I'll also send an email out to all the UA's I know to see if they have anything or know of anything.

Sir, before I forget, almost any Retention NCO should have access to RCMS. (It's the site I would use to help you find a unit). It has a Unit locator to help Soldiers find a home unit within --- miles of where you live, depending on your rank and MOS. Also a handy device to get info on your Soldiers when RLAS goes down. Pretty much gives info that the 2A gives. I have used it to help Soldiers find new Units and to help help others attempt to locate Unsats.

SSG (Join to see) Thank you, ma'am. Completely familiar with RCMS. Problem is many of our Govt systems don't like opening up for computers they see are in Saudi Arabia... Go figure. I use a VPN when I'm at home but can't at work.

Have you checked the Civil Affairs reserve units within commuting distance from your home?

CPT Pedro Meza Thanks, CPT Meza. Once I've nailed down the civilian slot I'll have a better idea of what the commuting distance looks like. Atlanta is home so that would be ideal but right now the job prospects in HotLanta just aren't that hot.

The units, branch and MOS are designated Psychological Operations. They conduct Military Information Support Operations. Similarly, Civil Affairs specialists in CA units conduct Civil-Military Operations (CMO).
