I have been a paramedic since 2004. Just about 10 years with Fire Rescue and SWAT medic. Any ideas? I have inquired with my BN but haven't really got anywhere.

Nope, you have to go to school. But the good news is that if your certifications are current, you will be able to test out of certain portions of the course.

SSG (Join to see), the school house is the proponent, so they will have to approve it, but yes I have seen this done.

It also has to be NREMT Certification, the school won't accept a state certification. With an NREMT B (or in your case P) you can skip the first 6 weeks of training and enter at the TC3 Stage. However, I have had soldiers in my unit who were Paramedics with similar job experience and they still had to take the entire course, so prepare yourself that they may make you do the entire 68W start to finish. You'll just be incredibly bored for the first half of the course.

You will have to go to the school. they may let you test out of some of the classes, but the Army is big on attending their classes.

However, waivers and certifications may be available. I have an MI Soldier trying to switch to X-ray tech based on experience, degree and such. The retention guy didn't say no, but didn't say yes either. There are folks more knowledgeable about this than the old MI weinie over here in the corner. He is trying, but the retention said he needs to prepare to go to AIT.

To attain the 68W MOS, even as a paramedic, you will have to attend AIT as a 68W at Fort Sam Houston. You would be able to skip through some of the curriculum.

1SG thanks for responding. What's he difference in scope of practice between civilian paramedic and 68W? From what I understand and I could be wrong is that whisky is like a EMT-I.

The certification for 68W is EMT; however, the scope is based on the skill of the medic. The more knowledgeable and skillful the medic is the more their PA will allow him to do. The base 68W skillet is most like an Advanced EMT with buts of Paramedic thrown in. But as with all EMS on the civilian side, we also work off of protocols and medical directives. We are able to do more if we show the skill and allowed by the provider.

No, there isn't. While the Army has incorporated the NREMT Basic into the training and mosq for 68W, there is far more to being mosq. You would have to attend training on Army specific items, such as Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TC3). Since the Army does some things differently from the civilian counterparts, additional training is required.

Spec Op my wife would probably kill me since we have a retired CSM from there in the family who talked me out of it in the first place. Flight does sound good though. My BDE COL actually told me to do that when I did my YTB brief earlier this year.

when i say spec op medic i'm leaning toward Civil Affairs its not as glamorous as the other spec op families but its a way to advance to higher goals as a PA or even MD

You can submit a 4187 for MOS Conversion. If it gets approved you will be assigned IAW the needs of the Army and may have to reenlist/extend to meet the SRR for the MOS.
Edit: I just realized that this is a Reserve question. You can still do a 4187 for MOS Conversion, but I only imagine if your Unit has an opening for the MOS, I believe. I would check with the Career Counselors you may have or at least your Retention NCO.

Good thing the DET SGT from my sister company just deployed so there is an opening for me to slide into. I guess the best thing is to try and see what happens.
