I love Maine. For any of you outdoor types, there's really no better place. I recently learned that for veterans with a 50%+ disability rating, you get lifetime fishing and hunting licenses.

"A disabled veteran who has a service connected disability evaluated at 50% or more may obtain a complimentary license to fish, trap, hunt, including archery, muzzleload, bear, migratory bird, pheasant, spring/fall wild turkey, coyote night hunt, crossbow, one expanded archery antlerless deer permit, one expanded archery either sex permit, and upon meeting the qualifications, a license to guide.

This license is available to disabled veterans who are residents of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

This license(s) remains valid for the life of the license holder, as long as the license holder continues to satisfy the residency requirements in Title 12, section 10001, subsection 53, and the license is not revoked or suspended."

Do you live in Maine, SSG? We also have a Disabled Veteran Controlled Moose Hunt for veterans who are 50% or more disabled. Below is a photo from a hunt two weeks ago!

Yes, sir. I encourage you to check out our website:
https://www.maine.gov/veterans/benefits/employment/occupational-licensing.html

Since 2012, Maine's Department of Professional and Financial Regulation (DPFR) has led an initiative to accelerate the licensing process for veterans. The program allows for quicker, easier licensing for veterans who have demonstrable military experience in the areas of: boiler repair, plumbing, electrical and fuel.

Maine also recently made changes to employment in health care. All veterans discharged under conditions other than dishonorable, who completed health care related military training while in the Armed Forces, may utilize their military credentials when seeking civilian employment!

Good morning, SSgt! 11% of Maine's population served in the U.S. Military. In fact, we have one of the largest percentage of veterans per capita in the entire country with roughly 117,000 veterans residing in Maine!

But the snow, though......

On a more serious note....what is the market looking like for experienced phlebotomists? What about US Army trained Environmental Surveillance Specialists? What is the cost of living? State Income Tax rate? What is the Primary and Secondary Education system look like? Healthcare system? Crime rate? I mean, practically a 2.5 jobs per vet ratio is nice and all, but what other incentives are there to get me to Maine?

Do you mean the state that is always pink or blue on the weather map during the winter? Sorry, can't do it. I hear it's especially nice when summer falls on a weekend. Lol. Gotta have my 8 month long summers. All kidding aside, it is a beautiful state though.

Good Morning. I thought you'd enjoy this description of Maine's weather in the summer from the Maine Tourism Association, "Peak temperatures normally occurring in July average about 70°F throughout the state. In the Southern Interior Division during a very warm summer, temperatures may reach 90° for as many as 25 days, and in the Coastal Division, two to seven days. Summer nights are usually comfortably cool."

Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services - That sounds like a very nice summer. It also sounds about like winter in Mississippi! Well, it might not stay that warm but it's not too far off. I would love to live in the mountains one day though.
