Males, do you shave when off duty? Especially on leave?

I was told today by a senior NCO while at a on post community function that I was out of regulation for having a beard. I've been on leave for a little over 2 weeks and have 2 weeks left. I referred him and his wife to look at the regulation. I assumed it was pretty black and white but apparently not everyone knows the regs...

Shaving while Off Duty??

Who does it? According to the new AR670-1, SM has to be clean shaven while in uniform or in civilian attire while On Duty. Thing is, I've heard many SNCO's say that even off duty you have to be clean shaven. What is your input in this matter? Do you shave while on leave or on the weekends?
I usually don't shave on weekends or on leave, and I live On Post. I've been downrange for the past 10 months so the new AR 670-1 came out while I was out here. Don't know if a CSM is gonna come and chew my butt out for not shaving on a Saturday coming out of the PX lol.

In uniform and or on duty in civilian clothing regardless if you on post or not, if it's consider your place of duty, then you much shave. For example, off post at an unit org day or any event held during the prescribed duty day which is detailed on each units training calendar. Otherwise you can grow out your facial hair.

He is on leave chief so it is a misapplication of the regulation in this case. It use to be you had to shave, but it no longer says this. Thank the derm community as our faces need time to reset and shaving every day is bad for your skin.

Each post has its own in addition too policies. If I do anything on base I usually shave. I don't want my Soldiers to see me in an unprofessional light.

What's make not shaving unprofessional? That's why shaving profiles exist.

The AR is great to know but you need to know the local regulations and policies for your Base, and all levels of your command. Remember that can always make it more strict but can not make it easier. Your Company or Brigade may have a policy letter that requires you to shave even on leave or to not allow your beard to be long than 1/8" inch like applied to no shave profiles (which still have to shave or cut with a trimmer twice a week).
Just remember in future the AR's are the min standards that must be applied. Company commanders and above can add to those standards as long as they don't violate another one in doing so.
