I was medically retired 2017 because of “PTSD”
that occurred back in 11-12 OEF.( no direct combat, my buddy was killed) and I went to talk to a doctor while I was in combat because he was killed. I was diagnosed when I was going through a regular ets. So here I am 3 years later wanting to go in to the NG or AR. Is there anyway I can give up this retirement or put it on hold to joined? I think I have a compelling argument on why I should be able to serve and I am in way better shape than most service member(not hating just take care of my body). Can some point me to a board where I can ask/ apply for a waiver.

I know you can join the RC if you're receiving disability you just have to waive payment from one of the sources.
I do not believe you can be removed from medical retirement, even temporarily, in order to serve in the RC. But I'm not a NG or USAR recruiter, which is who you should speak to

It depends.
Were you added to the PDRL or TDRL?
What is your RE code?
Have you discussed this information with a recruiter to get clarification?
I understand the desire to serve but it all depends on the details of your medical retirement. It will be difficult to make happen though and it isn't a guarantee that there is a payoff. I was medically retired in 2012 and looked into the same thing and was unable to do so due to my status and RE Code.
I would look at alternative means to serve your community. CAP, State reserve if your State has one, reserve law enforcement, volunteer or reserve fire fighter. There are plenty of things you can do to make a difference instead of trying to get blood from this particular stone.

Sorry, I understand but does it look like my question is fake? Really don’t want my information out like that especially if I don’t know if I will be able to get back in.

I'm in the same boat. I am 100% permanent and total through the VA, but I'm trying to go back into the guard because retirement is not for me at only 38. So I basically have to waive the payments that either the guard pays me or that the VA pays me. I can't get both payments concurrently. So what I would recommend is that you call the va's 800 number and inquire As to What your situation would be. What is your re-enlistment code on your DD-214? I would talk to a guard recruiter and explain to them your situation. My Guard recruiter told me that the disability rating is Irrelevant as long as you are able to do the job. But that's determined at Meps.

Thanks, I will do that, as I was a 79R when I got out of the Army and I did my job up until I got out and I was only diagnosed with PTSD when I was going through the regular ets process, I never asked for it they gave it to me . I am currently in Grad school and work in HR for a Fortune 500 company “I am all there in the head”. I just want to serve again and lead soldiers if I can and I am only 35.

SSG David Sanders I feel the same way. I know that I can contribute and I don't want to disrupt my family's life by joining the regular army. That's why I'm trying to join the guard. Even if I make a little bit less money from what I would be making on full disability I would be productive in my life. That has a huge impact on my mental health. Right now I'm doing absolutely nothing but watching my children and Maybe a little bit of TV. It's distressed Being retired when I'm not even 40.

To be honest I believe you are going to have a hard time getting back in. I would look at your RE Code on your DD-214. It will tell you your chances. If you are anything but an RE-1 then you are going to have some issues. But from what I understand the military will not take anyone that has mental health issues. There is a chance if they believe you have recovered but you should talk to a recruiter about this.

That is what I am thinking, that is why I want to talk to someone. my "PTSD" supposed to have occurred in 2011, 3 months after getting in country after my buddy was KIA (so my PTSD is not combat related I was not there when he was killed) and I my PSG ask me to go talk to a DOC ( I was never put on med and I volunteered to be the Ramp NCO after that), I finished the whole deployment and served 6 years after that on active duty. it was a CIV doctor at Gordon that put me in for it ( I was a 79R). while I was going through the ETS process and I was already accepted into the GA NG green to gold. Also I have put in people with RE Code 4 with waivers, also I put in a felons, the Army has a waiver for everything. As I am set to go to the VA for a review I want to them to reevaluate me so i can serve again.
