Mid Tour Leave South Korea Denied?

Submitted my leave packet for 27 days, have 35 total to use. Got kicked back/denied. I’m not in any trouble, & never have been, not flagged. I’m a high-speed, & hard working. No reason that I’m aware of for it to be denied. Was told by COC that the BC said I should’ve taken holiday block leave in December. Mind you I just arrived to Korea for 12 month unaccompanied tour in October, so it didn’t make sense to take leave. So it got kicked back... 1SGT is trying to “fight it”, said there’s a regulation that states I be allowed to take leave, that it’s a right not a privilege, and he has a meeting with the SGM who he plans to talk to about it, so that the SGM can deliver the info to the BC along with my leave packet again. Anyone have any advice? Why would it not be approved? Am I not gonna be allowed to visit my family, 4 kids and a wife, for the full 12 months? Thanks!

Unfortunately, Leave is both a Right and a Privilege. You earn it and can use it but when you can is up to the approving authority. Outside if what CSM ZaGara said, try requesting for just 14 days. I know that isn't the amount of time you want, but it may very well be the only time you're able to get.
I’m finding it hard to believe you’re a high speed individual when you don’t know the correct 1SG acronym or understand that the AR 600-8-10 states that leave is the commander’s policy and the commander can deny any leave without reason.
Overseas assignments have readiness requirements higher than those in CONUS, there has to be a certain percentage of the organization available at all times. Your NCOIC should know the leave policy. Your command cannot project what they do not know, and if your leadership and you failed to forecast giving the Command the opportunity to plan, then there isn’t much to be sone.
If you are that uninformed and your leadership failed to inform you, and the leave policy does not provide the appropriate guidance then your only hope is to take it to the level at which it was denied.
The CSM has great sway, but you and your COC have to have your ducks in order.
Remember that ignorance is not Bliss. We all know that their are policies for everything and usually required to review them when in processing.
Speak to your COC, check the processes and ask to speak to the CO.

I would also inquire to see if modifying the length or date of the leave would made a difference. talk the 1SGT and CO, see if the CSM can intervene. They may balk at 3 weeks, but might sign off on 10 days or a different leave date.
