In the primary election, I voted my conscience. In the general election, I feel I must to my best to keep Hillary out of the White House. Voting for Trump is my best option. In general, I find my fellow soldiers to be more conservative than the general populace. Only a few of the folks with whom I have worked would admit to voting for Democrats.

The past 20-30 years, democrats have not been very kind with the military budget. For those of you considering democrat, you may want to reconsider for the sake of your wallet. https://www.navycs.com/charts/

Thanks. You're really me understand the problem.

You're hearing the GOP congressmen shooting "We must respect our soldiers!", and I'm reading and quoting their voting record where they vote against any attempt to increase the pay or benefits of active duty or veteran soldiers.

They increase defense spending for bombers, tanks and other conventional weaponry that are built in their home states, and for wars that keep oil prices high. For them, it isn't about you at all.

And our "decimated" defense budget (for all that hardware and some cyber warfare technology) is 3x that of the #2 (China). We spend as much as the next 7 countries including China combined.

Trump's record for soldiers and veterans is lots of hot air shooting, lies, draft dodging, comparing his sex life to serving in Vietnam, calling John McCain a loser for getting captured in Vietnam, and accusing Iraqi troops of stealing.

You're voting based on feelings you cannot admit, not on facts.

Sweet!! Vote democrat and when defense budget gets cut and effects pay grades you will not be pleased when you do not have a significant pay raise. I already had a link that showed what president as well as political party they represent (facts) with their pay increases for the military so I am not using emotions. Math doesn't lie. Look at the numbers. http://www.navycs.com/charts/

I realize people can not stand Hillary, but I truly can not understand how Veterans or active duty folks can choose to support a guy who:

1. ripped on a POW for being captured, even though Trump did nothing but get deferments, and then lie about it
2. says during a national debate that he would knowingly order war crimes, and when asked if the military would follow his unlawful orders, he responded, oh, they'll follow me, trust me
3. a klown who actually said he knows more about ISIS/IL than the generals

I'm at a complete loss.......

LT Don Van Gilder - I haven't heard McCain refer to himself as a hero either, but I have often heard him gloat, implying that his extensive military and leadership experience give him greater insight than others. As far as Trump is concerned, he wasn't my pick for president until he was the only reasonable choice left on the ticket. I do, however, acknowledge him as a leader and much more of a thoughful one than he has been given credit for. Heck, I truly believe that that's the only reason he's in the race. As he told Oprah years ago when asked, he would only do this because he felt it absolutely necessary for the good of the country. Aside from some very minimal ego points, he has absolutely nothing to gain from this.

Maj Rob Drury - Then you shouldn't have written "he very deservedly ripped McCain for his insistence that his POW status makes him more of a hero than if he hadn't been captured."

I could not possibly disagree with you more about Drumpf. You must also have a completely different definition for the word "leader" than I do as well.

I do not believe (and nothing you say will change my view) that there is a non-self serving bone in his entire body.

Well, I can respectfully agree to disagree, provided that you're views are the result of some sort of positive reasoning; in which case you're either holding your nose while voting for Trump, or you're defiantly abstaining or throwing your vote away on a third party. If you're voting for Hillary, your views are deserving of no respect whatsoever.

I would vote for pretty much anybody over Drumpf, and I could care less what you think of my views or my thoughts on the need for a viable third party.

I would say more, but I have too much respect for your military service.

I'm not much enamored of Hillary, but Trump scares the daylights out of me. The political parallels between the US today and Weimar Republic Germany when Hitler & Co. gained power are very concerning. I recommend you visit the website of a Navy Chaplin, Lt Cdr Steve Dundas. Padre Steve, as he calls himself, is a historian, baseball fan (The Orioles), commentator on life and politics in addition to being a Chaplin and Instructor. Padre Steve is still on active duty and is a veteran of Iraq. The reason I mention him is that I believe the younger vets and active duty members of RP will relate to him better than to this vet of the Vietnam/Cold War eras. Those of you who are on active duty will be most affected by Trump as C in C, please visit "padresteve.com" and read Steve's latest blog on Trump "Nuremburg on Lake Erie" - it will give you pause.

2:1? 66%? I would be willing to wager Trump gets at least 70% if not more support of the military.

Bottom line is we saw what happened in Benghazi. We saw what she did with her classified docs. We saw how her Husband treated the military.

Trump was not my first, second or even third choice. At time I despise him. But I will pull the lever for him, gladly. And I will always exercise my God-given hard fought right to vote in this country's election.

The North remembers.

Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State during Benghazi.

The Secretary of State is a senior official of the federal government of the United States of America heading the U.S. Department of State, principally concerned with foreign policy and is considered to be the U.S. government's equivalent of a Minister for Foreign Affairs.

In other words, her office was responsible for putting Service Members in harms way and then not backing them up when shit hit the fan.

Just like in the Battle of Mogadishu... there seems to be a trend among the Clintons.

My thought is that for years, the Republican/Conservatives have been far more in support of both military and veterans. Clinton has shown on many occasions her disdain for our men and women in uniform.

If Trump wins, we go to war there is no doubt that will not happen. We need someone like Trump to fix everything that the current Administration has done to the military starting with a bigger raise than 1% which by the way is a pay cut since inflation averages 5% increase every year. We also need to beef the force back up and fix the promotion rates so he has a lot on his plate to deal with on the military aspect alone. However with the case of Hillary, she is getting away with from releasing TOP SECRET emails on GMAIL, the death count in the Clinton family, and whatever else we don't see in the media, yet, she is still allowed to run to be our Nations President? I don't really understand how dollar signs can cover a multitude of shady and dangerous acts that have costed many people's lives. There is a reason with all that in mind that of course we would rather someone that is pro military and pro gun to be our president. It's not time to take guns away, contrary to popular belief and the number one goal under the current administration, rather its time to beef up our force and arm America for this evil that is coming upon us really quick and that being terrorist's in our country trying to rip us apart from the inside.

I should have stopped reading at "inflation averages 5%." I see you wrote the "number one goal" of Obama is taking guns away. Where do you get your "information"?

Capt Michael Greene - What may be driving that belief is Obama's fascination with Australia's gun ban. He constantly mentions it. They are a nation of 25 million people and banned something like 600,000 guns. We have 330 million people, with 300 million guns in the hands of 180 million people. Trying to emulate them would be costly.

I don't see the 2nd amendment going away.

LT Louis McKellar - Of course it won't "go away." No one in Congress would be willing to have their name attached to that, but they'll continue to attempt to wittle down our gun rights until they are meaningless.

Maj Ron Johnson Please be specific. HOW has our military been wrecked? We have maintained roughly the same number of troops since 1996, we invest more dollars in our military than the rest of the world, combined. The Abrams tank is nearly indestructible--no crew member has ever died from enemy action--and we have 9000 of them. China has half as many tanks, and they're old. Russia has only 2000 tanks in use, mostly older. We have twice the air power of Russia. And we're the only country with full stealth in operation. We have 5000 active nuclear warheads. The US Navy is phenomenal. Our ~300 combat ships are modern and high tech compared to Russia's ~80 combatants, which are so old they spend most of their time tied up. We have 10 massive aircraft carriers with jets on them. Russia has one. One. We have 19 carriers of all types, more than the next 9 countries combined, and all but one of those countries is an ally.

What is amazing is how many in our population buy the false narrative that our military is somehow lacking.
