Ah yes, we've all seen them; "so, there you were" in a theater or a room full of service members or veterans, one minute everything's ok, then all of a sudden there it is... the over-the-top military movie discrepancy! So, what was that moment that stands out most in your mind? What are those associated memories or stories that come to mind? Did the base theater erupt into 'chaos' over an unkempt/incorrect uniform, improper language/jargon/ customs, or was there something that was just plain 'unsat' from a military point-of-view. lol Well, there's a ton of them out there, and I'm pretty sure that something should immediately come to mind, so what are we waiting for? Quick, pull up a keyboard, and let's get this thing started; thanks for all that you do, and... see you all in the discussion threads!

Any movie where they put a Kilo of C4 on anything to blow it up and then there is a fireball.

There are too many to list. But my biggest annoyance is the Clint Eastwood movie, Heartbreak Ridge, where he is in charge of a Recon unit. They are a bunch of goofballs and all jacked up. Seriously, Marine Recon??? I was never in the Marines, but I have several friends who are former Recon. Even though they left the Marines many years ago, they are some of the most squared people I have ever met.

Movie’s will be movie’s period. There’s a lot of good discussion here about the screw ups of Hollywood Movies. If you really want to watch a good depictions of War in Harms Way, then may I suggest Victory at Sea. One of my favorites.

Id have to say Top Gun, when Iceman, Val Kilmer says Mavericks in a dead spin and headed out to sea!! Ummmmm? dead spins are usually strait down i would think and they were flying over mountains at the time! Next when Maverick says, Goose I cant reach the ejection handles!!! Ummmm again!!!! Theres one between your legs!!!!!

Right? A flat spin would head him out to sea. A dead spin would point him at the ground.

Well, working on the CV-22 out at Kirtland, AFB they used these a lot in early filming. Right before I arrived they had filmed the first Transformers using A0024, and used A0027 I believe in Terminator Salvation.
Of course, having worked on the plane, I had to see what they did in the films. The one stand out thing is in Terminator they show the cockpit of the V-22 flying the lead somewhere. In the center of the cockpit is a display, the Center Cockpit Display (forget the technical name for it, CDU I think?). On that display shows the CV-22 all in red. Now to those who don't know, when the plane is "red" on the screen in certain areas, means that system is non-operational; either its not turned on, deactivated, etc. What this meant was they were running the plane off ground power for the shots, so essentially (if it were airborne) your plane would be like "OH SHIT WE'RE CRASHING!"
I laughed when I saw that. They could have AT LEAST brought up a random menu or something.

The most memorable "gaffe" in the military movies ... Yes, there are many ... But the most classic has to be John Wayne not hooking up his static line in the " Green Berets" as they jump in to go capture the NVA General near the end of the movie ....

Wow! So many movies Hollywood it up...obviously they are just trying to sell the movie...but if anyone watched Expendables, Expendables 2, you have to laugh...also although the movie LONE SURVIVOR is based on a True Story.....Come On....No human being could slam into a tree at 20-30 mph and wrap around it and get up and fight.......SERIOUSLY? Here is a Twist to your question MAJOR BURNS: What Movie after watching it, MADE YOU SAY....WOW that was as close to what I do as they could portray on the screen? I have a feeling the number one selection would be "SAVING PRIVATE RYAN" WOW that movie makes the hair stand up on my arms....and I say thank God I did not join the Army! My Dad was in the Army, he persuaded me that I would be a better Airman then an army man! ha ha ha....He was right!

Air Force One - the entire movie. Saw it with my then fiancé', now wife. When they 'landed' at Ramstein AB, they were using the artist rendering of what Ramstein looks like now, I hollered BULLSHIT very loudly in the theatre. She swore she would never watch a military movie with me again, and she hasn't.

While not intended to be taken seriously...
Men Who Stare at Goats. All of it. I was actually asked, several years ago, if anything in the movie was true. I honestly had no answer for him.
More in line with the discussion: I want to say in the second Transformers movie the guys are wearing SWCS patches (Schools unit, for those who may not know)
